TACOMA, Wash. -- A man suspected of raping a woman after offering her a ride Aug. 15 in Tacoma told the victim he does it every once in a while becuase he gets sexual gratification from it, according to charges filed Wednesday in Pierce County Superior Court.

According to the charging documents, the victim was walking along Pacific Avenue when 30-year-old Jethro Butcher stopped his car and offered her a ride. The victim said yes and got in the car.

The victim later told officers Butcher drove them to an alley near 74th Street then pulled out a knife and told her to give him all her money. When she said she didn't have any, he told her to get in the backseat.

According to the charging documents, Butcher pulled off the victim's pants and underwear, showed her a handgun tucked into his waistband and raped her. She told officers she cried and asked Butcher to let her go and not hurt her. He reportedly responded by telling her he does this every once in a while because "it gets him off."

The victim was eventually able to escape out the back door and run for help. She told officers Butcher chased her while demandng to know where his keys were. When she told him she didn't have them, he went back to his car.

According to the report, a witness smoking a cigarette on the roof of her house near the alley heard Butcher and the victim fighting. She told officers she heard the victim tell Butcher to shut up before running out of the alley yelling for help. She said Butcher followed her briefly while pulling his pants up before returning to his car and rummaging around for a few minutes.

The witness directed the victim to a nearby fire station and called 911. Officers arrived and found the victim at the fire station without pants or underwear.

According to the charging documents, officers arrested Butcher, who claimed he was in the area to meet a girl and refused to answer any other questions. He was identified as the suspect by both the victim and witness.

A detective found a steak knife and latex glove in a nearby yard, and the homeowner said they didn't belong to him. According to the charging documents, there was a box of latex gloves in Butcher's car.
