Contagious traveler with measles was at Sea-Tac
SEATTLE (AP) - The Seattle and King County Public Health Department reports a passenger with contagious measles made a stop at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Jan. 18.
Measles is highly contagious, although most people are immune to the disease because of vaccinations. Spokesman James Apa says the health department warning is for people who are unsure of their immunity and develop an illness with fever or an unexplained rash before Feb. 9.
Measles, also known as rubeola, causes fever, rash, cough, and red, watery eyes.
People at highest risk include those who are unvaccinated, as well as pregnant women, infants under six months and those with weakened immune systems.
The contagious traveler flew from Amsterdam to Portland, Ore., through a connecting flight in Seattle. People who flew on Jan. 18 through a south or north gate or took an airport train may have been exposed. After arriving in Oregon, the traveler received medical treatment and public health authorities were notified.

Several years ago when I was writing software for the NSA and DIA rumors where floating that several DEA and FBI  had knowingly been giving their drug addicted informants HIV tainted needles.
Â
Why don't we put these foreigners whom bring disease to our shores in a secure medical container and ship them back to their homeland?
@Harrison that sounds like a swell idea, but I'm sure some liberal group for "humanity" or "equality" will raise a ruckus about it and take it to court.
Measles are a real threat to pregnant women and their unborn child. They can also be deadly to those undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia, or other cancers. For someone to travel while they have a communicable disease like measles is completely irresponsible.
@Gnirk As is failing to immunize your children -- completely irresponsible.  Should my child choose to travel the globe, they will not be in danger of picking up the various diseases which, thanks to vaccinations, could be eradicated.Â
Oh my god, oh my god. Jesus. I seem to recall getting measles, like most of my friends, when I was a kid. I'm still here.
@uscit16791949 Like many childhood diseases, getting measles as a kid is a whole different experience than having them as an adult.  And goody for you that you survived.  Many did not.
Name of this person who elected to put so many people needlessly at risk, AND, where's the rest of the story in terms of the results of finding this passenger and what happens to them now????
There was a time, many years ago, when all kids got the measles and a week off of school.  Unless you were unlucky enough to get them over a holiday or summer break.
@Murigen There was a time, when kids who got it did get a week off school. A miserable week and those unlucky enough just died of secondary infection. Obviously their was enough unlucky children to make scientists come up with a vaccine. I am glad I went ahead and had my son vaccinated on time.Â
Once again, let's remember that Seattle has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the Country. Â So someone with measles is a huge threat to the poor kids whose parents refused to get them vaccinated, and pregnant women who are not vaccinated. Â No excuse. Â There was a time, many decades ago, where you had to have shots and vaccinations to travel to other countries and to come here. Now we're a flying petri dish...
