Convergence Zone brings spring snow to W. Washington

LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- Spring may have officially begun, but winter weather is hanging on in Western Washington.
The Puget Sound Convergence Zonereenergized Thursday night and was in full force early Friday, dropping snow in south Snohomish County and parts of northern King County.
Snow reports of anywhere from 1/2" to 1" have come in from Lynnwood, Mukilteo, Monroe, Mill Creek and Snohomish, with greater totals of 2-4 inches reported around South Everett and Woodinville. Snow has also coated the Eastside foothills of North Bend and Snoqualmie.
A few snow showers also made it as far south as the Seattle-Bellevue metro areas but they were brief and light. (See live radar >>>)
Several school districts have delayed the start of classes, and police throughout Snohomish County are responding to spinouts and crashes as the morning commute began.
The WSDOT had to close SR-522 at SR-9 near Maltby for a time around 6 a.m. due to snow on the road.
The zone was expected to hang around Snohomish and northern King County through Friday midday or early afternoon then gradually shift south and dissipate. But those of you in northern King County, especially above a few hundred feet, should be alert for a little snow later Friday morning as the zone moves south.
Friday night is set to be one of the coldest nights in several weeks as temperatures drop into the upper 20s in the outlying areas to the low-mid 30s in the Seattle urban areas.
We'll be all dry by Saturday, save for a few clouds on the southern coast with highs in the mid-upper 40s. Looks like spring gets a firmer grip on the weather for Sunday and into early next week as we stay dry and even perhaps mostly sunny with temperatures climbing back into the mid 50s.

Love, love, love the snow!
I'm sure the 2-3 inches will be melting away for good soon here in Bothell, but it was fun while it lasted.
Going to head to the mountains tomorrow to get my fill!
I hope they bother de-icing the roads above 500ft.
I wonder what the idiots around here would do if we ever got some snow here? Life would end as they know it.
Everett - 4 inchies and still snowing as of 10:15!
Woo hoo Traveler! Snow this time of year is not really a big deal, it eventually melts, just like now there is no snow in Totem Lake at all, looked pretty earlier though. :)
A solid inch in North Creek
I hate all of you in the north sound. I didn't get jack this winter, and I live in Issaquah! What the heck!?
It was snowing not too far from you in Issaquah, Blue Fire.
@BluefireJaguar We're just down the road and we got a lot! Don't know how it missed you....
This is so funny. Â Nary a flake all winter and it just stopped snowing in the foothills around 9. Â Is Mother Nature menopausal or something? Â
LOL too funny Doxie. Mother Nature can sometimes have a worpped sense of humor!
@wetrock I think she's hormonal.  She's very irrational.  (Hubby would agree here for some strange reason.)
Just a trace amount on my deck here in Marysville at 6am - all gone by 7am.
BOOOO! No snow here. :(
3"+ Â on ground and it's still snowing in Woodinville!
@jgardener Same here up in downtown Everett.
@Tiamonet @jgardener 8" and still snowing on the higher hills in north bend!! love it!
33 degrees here and still snowing in Lynnwood as of 8 this morning; probably about 1 to 1 1/2 inches on the ground - yeah, I just got up and this was what I woke up to! Â Looks like the most snow I've seen this year, haha!
Oh geeze, I forgot to color my Easter eggs before hiding them....
Snowing in north seattle crazy weather getting more snow in spring then winter.
I'm dreaming of a white... Easter?
Was snowing hard enough in the Boulevard Bluffs neighborhood of Everett to set off the hazard alarm when we backed out of our driveway. Â
Come hell, high water or a dusting of white, Edmonds schools were darn well going to get a snow day of some kind in this year!
Well that was fun. Nothing like a little snow and a $500 Quattro.
@Hachee_Bungwhy Quattro LOVES the white stuff!
@what? @Hachee_Bungwhy Wish there was more to maximize the fun level.
I left extra early and my commute still took twice as long as normal.
@therunner - that's because you left extra early... ;)
Welcome to Spring!
I'm impressed with the forecasting for this. This is exactly what they said could very likely happen and they nailed down the areas where it was likely... and that was a couple days ago. It looks like the zone is even dropping south as we speak like they said. Forecasting is way, way better than back when I was a kid and don't ask how long ago that was : )
@Scoondog Well, if you keep throwing something at the wall, eventually it will stick. They get lucky once and a while. The worst place on earth to forecast the weather.
No real road issues as such coming out of Mill Creek this morning at 5:30, but the snow itself made seeing the road difficult. Of course, the usual ineptitude of Puget Sound drivers was the worst problem, but that is all of the time, even on a sunny day.
@Phil F I came out of Mill Creek a little later (7am). I thought people were driving very well for the most part. The one exception was the person who slowed down to 10mph while climbing a hill. That wasn't the smartest thing I've ever witnessed. I also saw one car attached to a tow truck. I couldn't help but laugh at that one.
This is crap, The drive in to work sucked!
