Corrections deputy charged with trading cookies for sex with inmate
EVERETT, Wash. -- A corrections deputy formerly working at the Snohomish County Jail is charged with trading homemade chocolate chip cookies for sex with an inmate.
According to charging documents, Abner Canda, who was placed on paid administrative leave in January, provided food to a 22-year-old female inmate in exchange for sexual favors on a number of occasions between November 2012 and January 2013.
According to documents, video surveillance appears to corroborate the inmate's story. And, at least two other inmates have suggested they had sexual contact with Canda as well, including one who claims she was dating him while incarcerated in the jail, according to documents.
The 22-year-old inmate brought the allegations against Canda in January, telling police she felt guilty for what she had done.
“I’m sorry," she told police. "I’m trying to change and be a better person now. I’m ashamed for my actions. That’s why I’m saying something.”
The Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney's Office filed first-degree custodial sexual misconduct charges against Canda on March 5 after an investigation from the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit.
Now that charges have been filed, a the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office of Professional Accountability will begin an internal investigation.
Canda has been with the Sheriff's Office since 2007.
@twoupsports New meaning for "cookie ride"!
@TheNoRide cookie ride to the pen.
Wow, cookies. It used to cost me 6-10 drinks, and that was back when they were only about a buck a shot.
Sheesh just a sign of when you think someone could not be any dumber... boing... We have a winner! | what was he putting in those cookies.. sheesh ... video evidence is there...do I even want to speculate what video they are talking about 'bad boy moofasa'
Is he still on paid administrative leave now that charges have been filed? If he is convicted, he should be required to pay back all the funds he accumulated while on paid admin leave.
Hope the boy scouts don't get involved.
It was tongue in cheek. Ok?
Sex for cookies? Realy? Wedding bells are ringing.
@bobalouie I'm guessing that wasn't his tongue he put in there in exchange for the cookies.
I wonder if he was hired because of his name?
@Windowseat recruited at home depot
If you read most of the post's you will see that abuse from guards is just the way it is. And there are a few posts of those who obviously know more than they will say because fear what could happen. I smell a rat !
Another internal investigation? What is it gonna take before something really changes. The recent deaths and now guards having sex with inmates, this is unacceptable and I say there should be an external investigation done. No more "family" secrets!
KOMO, it sounds like the chronological order of events in this article are incorrect. Usually the internal investigation is done, turned over to the prosecutor, then charges are filed. This type of behavior is disgusting to me, and ufortunately overshadows the professionals who do their jobs and work hard for the taxpayers.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. What was Abner thinking? Yolanda is humiliated
Oh so many ways I could go on this one. Unfortunately, the administrator knows me all to well, so not today.
(relax Kevin)
Well, how do you like them cookies! Â
(let's see, sex or cookies? Which is better?)
If the cookie is a Samoa... tough choice. Not only does it support a good cause, it tastes completely amazing.
@quidproquo I agree, I actually just bought some, yum!Â
@steve340Â depends, are they chocolate chip? Hahahaha!Â
How does someone get this stupid. I mean both of them.
So, wouldn't that be prostitution? I mean there was an exchange for something of value.. for both parties involved..
LOL
could you image whats taking care of the books?
Chocolate get them every time.
Wow, those must have been some kind of cooky.
Why are men working where women are incarcerated? Â Why are women working where men are incarcerated?
Jails and prisons should not be equal opportunity employers.  The risk has proved to not be worth it.
@cheekygesturton Interesting statistic from 2012 a WA DOC internal report. There were 78 inmates who gave birth while incarcerated in Washington's prisons.. There were 22 classified as suspicious, involving inmates who had been incarcerated at least 12 months.Â
@BuddyHolly @cheekygesturton I presume those inmates weren't allowed conjugal visits.
@cheekygesturton For the same reason that male doctors work with female patients, female doctors work with male patients, and everyone else who works with the opposite sex. Employers expect their employees to act professional Unfortunately, there will always be people who don't and who let this sort of thing happen.
@WAREZ2012 @cheekygesturton I don't think that would be a good example. I have never see a doctor who acts like prison guards. The guards aren't there to make the inmates feel better.Â
You'd expect a doctor that went to school for at minimum 8 years to be alot more professional than a person who makes barely minimum wage and doesn't give a hoot about their job.
@quidproquo That is very true and oddly enough most of society gets that.Â
Either way, I don't trust the kind of person who would work corrections voluntarily. Â People who like exerting their will over another person are pretty par for the course in that sort of job.Â
@quidproquo County corrections deputies don't make minimum wage, in fact they start out at $23ish/hour, and he's been there for almost 10 years.
Maybe they were Samoas. Who wouldn't put out for a little bit of Samoas?
@Bubba Gunners Samoas are the heroin of cookies.
Well I guess this should come as a relief it's not always about drugs. Rather have the cookies. LOL!
Maybe the cookies had GREEN sprinkles...
@Zoso Cookies were the stepping stone...... all along! whodathunkit....
@Funky-Munky @Zoso The first cookies are free.....then when you cant live without them, the price goes up!
only a monster would take advantage of a young lady like that.....a COOKIE MONSTER!
Sigh RT @komonews: Can we call this a 'cookie for nookie' scandal at the Snohomish County Jail? http://t.co/BrMrxbJxj1
âIâm sorry," she told police. "Iâm trying to change and be a better person now."
Keep tryin honey, you missed the mark here!
No, it sounds like she needs a big payola, so she has "reformed."

He did it all for the nookie..... so you can take that cookie.... Ha!
I'm like trying um to be a better person and he's like a predator cuz he wouldn't um play ball when we started um making demands cuz we knew stuff that would like get him fired. It's like crazy, um like most of us girls here are innocent or umm the victims of bad men. He like um stole our innocence.
@joefuss I kill myself.... Ha! I cracked myself up....
@joefuss Ugh. That post says way more about you than anything else.
@Sutekh People who blindly put all their trust into authoritative characters usually like to blame the victim
@komonews You could call it that, but I'd like to believe you have more journalistic integrity...I mean you aren't @KIRO7Seattle
What would she do for a Klondike Bar?
