Cougar kills dog, knocks down woman in Chelan Co.
MANSON, Wash. (AP) - A cougar killed a dog and knocked down a woman early Friday at Manson before it was shot and killed by a Chelan County sheriff's deputy.
Washington Fish and Wildlife Capt. Chris Anderson says the woman in her 60s suffered scratches and required stitches.
The Wenatchee World reports the woman let her small dog out of the house about 2:30 a.m. in the residential area when the cougar attacked.
The woman tried to make the cougar drop the dog and blocked it in an enclosed area of the yard. The cougar knocked her down and hid behind a hot tub. The deputy arrived in 20 minutes and killed the cougar.
Anderson says the cougar was an old, emaciated male in poor health.

Cat fight! ooops sorry.Â
Sounds like she actually cornered the mountain lion. Not a good idea, but fortunately she didn't get hurt too bad.
I first thought that this story might be about some old WSU / UW rivalry gone to an extreme, or some older lady taking on a chauvinist. Never thought it would actually be a real dog and real cougar.
@komotriedtosilencemeJust another reason why we should stop using the word "cougar"Â altogether.Â
That must have been so traumatic for the woman. That's pretty heartbreaking all the way around. People do need to realize that at NO time should their dog be let outside in the middle of the night, unsupervised. Take it on a leash to a spot near your door, and have a flashlight with you. Â Better yet, a long leash that allows you to stand in your doorway while the dog does their biz. Â It's simply too wild in most areas up here, to let your dog out late at night that way. Â I can't even understand the idiots in my semi-rural neighborhood that leave their poor dogs outside all night.. every night...Â
@DT I have a small dog, and when she is on a leash, have refered to this action as 'trolling with furry bait'. The long leash probably wouldn't have helped in this case, at least those retractable things are way too flimsy, fine to control a small dog, not so much against a full size. You're totally right about people leaving their pets out in semi-rural areas, crazy!
@DTÂ or have a dog larger then the cat. Great Danes, Mastiffs, Rottweilers are all great for this.
Bad kitty....

What's funny is from the title is that it's ambiguous as to who got hurt, the cougar or the woman. BA DOOM.Â
In the future, just call them mountain lions, it's the same thing and you don't get the cougar jokes.Â
@NW-Economist Puma. And people forget that they ARE lions.
@Commenter87643Haha, yeah, but then people might think you have a shoe problem.Â
Poor cougar, it's hell to get old.
The deputy arrived in 20 minutes
See, you don't need a gun to protect yourself.Â
No kidding ! Why would anyone living in Cougar Country not at least have a shotgun ?
@ZIPPYTough to carry something that big around all the time.Â
@ZIPPYIMO Taurus Judge works well for that and it's compact.Â
no, this is home defense. The scattergun is in the closet . . and loaded . . . . as long as no kiddies are around.
I feel bad for this lady that must have been terrible.... Glad she is ok though
