Attorney accused of raping 5 women still held

SEATTLE -- A Seattle attorney charged with raping massage therapists in Seattle, Shoreline and Bellevue was still being held in jail Tuesday while he awaits trial.
Danford D. Grant, 47, faces multiple charges of rape and attempted rape in attacks involving five women. He has pleaded not guilty.
Grant had been scheduled for release Tuesday after a judge set conditions for his release. But word came later the release would not happen Tuesday.
If let out on bond, Grant will be electronically monitored will have an internet tracking device installed on his computer. He would only be able to leave his house for only four hours a day but only for medical or legal appointments. He must also attend counseling sessions.
Grant was arrested Sept. 24 at the Carnation Massage Clinic in Greenwood. An employee told police Grant raped her at knife point about one month earlier, and returned and again tried to sexually assault her the day of his arrest.
Prosecutors said Grant also raped another woman at the same business in July.
After the arrest, a detective working the case was contacted by a Bellevue police detective who said a victim from Bellevue had positively identified Grant from a photo line up. In that case a man matching Grant's description raped a massage therapist at knife point on August 28.
Grant is also charged with raping a massage therapist at her home in Shoreline on August 19. The victim in that attack told police Grant came to her house to ask for a massage. When she said no, he allegedly forced his way inside, breaking the chain lock inside the door.
The woman said Grant then put his hands around her neck and covered her mouth so she couldn't scream, according to court documents. Grant allegedly said he just wanted a massage, but the victim said he forced her into a back room, where he raped her.
Grant is a litigation partner at the Seattle law firm Bailey Grant Onsager and previously worked with the civil division of the the Seattle City Attorney's Office. He was originally ordered held on $3 million bail after his arrest, but a judge lowered the amount to $1 million on Thursday.

He was released on Halloween.
Family should save their $100 Grand. And the judge is being stupid.
KOMO... could you please do a little more homework? "Grant is a litigation partner at the Seattle law firm Bailey Grant Onsager " No longer accurate. They've already changed the name of the firm to Bailey Onsager. http://www.baileyonsager.com/news.php
Why is there no mention of "must surrender passport" in the terms of bail?? Bail being reduced from 3 mil to 1 mil, meaning he has to post a 1 hundred thousand bond..a thug in the valley could post this scratch easily
Â
..must attend counseling sessions - wtf ? I guarantee that if these victims were caucasian, this guy wouldn't have a chance at bail
@Pike's illusion Seattle Times says his passport is expired.Â
Time to legalize prostitution to make it safer for the women that decide to go that way. Its always been unconstitutional any ways. People have the right to do what ever they want with their bodies.
What a liberal hug a thug judge working in the King County Court System, dang when did the light finally come on for the local sheeple in this town...
I cannot believe this monster is allowed to walk and be in the comfort of his own home after what he did. Why did the judge lower the bail amount? Anyone else and it wouldnt have been lowered.
I bet he gets away with a mere slap on the wrist. I hear it now: âyes it was a  sex for money thing it got a little rough but no one is was hurt. They are mad because they wanted more money than agreed on your honorâ âWho are going to believe me or a "massage therapist " that may or may be not  here legally?â The guy is a pervert not dumb.
@BocaBob  He must be dumb to think he could get away with this garbage. To risk so much, when he surely could afford to pay though, is maybe just crazy.
Must attend counseling sessions? Â He's only accused, not convicted. Â Do they mean he must undergo evaluation to see if they can gain the truth?
The judge who decided to grant the reduced bail is Mary Yu.
Â
Mary Yu.
Â
To most of you, this name won't be familiar.
Â
However, if you knew Ed "Tuba Man" McMichael, a gentle soul who was killed by a savage animal named Billy Chambers, and are aware of the criminal history of said animal since his release for his part in killing Ed, you should know of Judge Yu. Six months after being released from prison for killing Ed, Chambers was arrested for assaulting and robbing another victim. At Chambers' sentencing, Judg Yu remarked to Chambers, "I believe you are redeemable," and sentenced him to less than a year in prison.
Â
Since Yu's optimistic remark, savage Chambers has been arrested multiple time on robbery and assault chargers; he pleaded guilty to running a woman off the road in his car because she was a witness against him in another case, and he bragged at another arrest about killingh Tuba Man.
Â
Therefore, it should come as no suprise that Judge Yu decided to lowe "Danford's" bail - against prosecutors' objections - even when allegations of a new sexual assault by the suspect came to light before her decision was made.
Â
And these are just two examples. I believe Yu is a bad judge of character - plain and simple. Hopefully, "Danford" - if the charges are true - doesn't seek out and harm any more victims as Billy Chmabers has since he cam before Judge Yu.

@Harrison - Â I remember Ed well and miss him everyday. I know of Billy Chambers now since this savage animal has been in the news repeatedly over the past four years for his violent, predatory crimes against our local citizens.
Â
For you to state that have a "hardon" (sic) for an incompetent judge, especially given the subject matter of this article, is beyond disgusting.
Â
Furthermore, for you to state that the victims were employed in "part time brothels" without providing any evidence is irresponsible and demeaning to the victims.Â
Â
Â
@StringerJoe@Harrison
I never referred to Judge Yu as incompetent. I did point out that your vendetta against the judge for doing her duty according to the applicable law seemed a bit over the top.
Â
Seattle Times reported early that SPD Vice Unit had taken over the Carnation rape investigation. Similar accounts of the information were reported in several area newspapers and TV newscasts.
Â
Normally rape would have been investigated by The SPD Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit, however this case was turned over to SPD Vice and High Risk Victims Unit.
Â
Other local media also reported Carnation Massage had been on the SPD's radar due to the worldâs oldest profession. Additionally BPD, KCSO, ICE, DHS, conducted investigations into a smorgasbord of alleged violations.
Â
There are plenty of newspaper articles for you to do your own research. Prostitution, human trafficking, unlicensed massage, fraud, fake diplomas used to get massage licenses were some of the allegations.
Â
Back in AUG 2012, 55 arrests were made at several eastside massage parlors for the same reason(s). As I recall there was a similar round up back in June/July where there were about 20 arrests.
Â
NOT ALL MASSAGE PARLORS ARE ENGAGED IN Prostitution!!!!!
Â
Lotus Herbal Spa, Chi Energy Spa, Sunflower Spa, Hao Spa, Jin Health Spa, Lavender Spa, Sapphire Spa, Kings Spa or Able Spa or Massage Spa, A-one Spa, Hao Spa, Aloha Spa (now called Lavender Spa), List provided by the Bellevue Police Department and was published in one of the eastside papers. One of the addresses associated was 15225 NE 20th St. Often times the workers will change locations amidst occasional ownership and business name changes.
Â
Letâs refocus here and clearly state, Rape is a despicable act and it is a crime. Offenders should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. At the same time, not all massage operations are bad places.
@StringerJoe I want to thank you for posting this. I will not forget this name.
Judge Yu needs to stop trying to become the holy redeemer of the criminal and think of the public safety and welfare.
He must attend counseling sessions...
The justice system here, or lackthereof is appalling. Some vigilante justice around here would be nice.
he will doff his bracelet and sneak out in his halloween costumeÂ
And if we had legal prostitution where the workers were protected by security instead of "massage therapists" and this hush hush black market crap where the workers are completely taken advantage of and threatened by Johns, then we'd have a lot less of Johns thinking they can get away with raping prostitutes.Â
@caphillkid The only problem is that rape is not sex. Prostitutes are for sex, not violence. This guy would rape someone else if prostitution was legal. He wasn't looking for sex, he was looking for power.
My momma told me that is one person calls you a horse, forget about it. Two, think about it. Three, buy yourself a saddle..... There are several women who have claimed the same thing about this guy. He is not only a flight risk, but chances are he will reoffend while he is out.
Drat, what the hell is HE doing out...dang...people with money...
Bonds are a legal right. If you're rich you get out during trial, if you're poor you're stuck inside jail. $1 million seems reasonable in this case. Then of course we have the Snohomish court judge Timothy Ryan gets off on a dui charge because he knows the truth, never volunteer for any dui tests or breathalysers. The laws work well for the rich and connected, not so well for the poor.
@Blindman --- Well, we've got no one to blame but ourselves. Maybe the "poor" should start running for office.
@Bianca  That wont work. It costs a lot to run for office. Many people start by using their own money. ALL of our politcal system is built on money.
Yep. No poor person runs for office. The system corrupts anyone entering into public service. In the end there is only one way to clean the system and people won't like it because they don't understand it. Currency has to end. It is the single most corrupting influence of any political system. @scared_citizen
Wow...what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? I thought this was Amercia NOT Italy! I guess I am wrong.Â
@Bianca Apparently his law firm clearly believes him guilty. They've already changed the name of the firm, dropping his name.
@Bianca Everyone in this forum is entitled to their own opinion - you included. Considering what he's charged with - violent crimes against several victims - as well as a mountain of evidence against him (including VIDEO THAT PUTS HIM AT THE SCENE OF ONE OF THE RAPES) - I think it's no small wonder that people are alarmed that he had his original bail of $3M reduced to $1M and has been released. I think YOU should think about how terrified his victims must be knowing that the only thing between them and him is a worthless low-jack. Heâs accused of VIOLENT CRIMES and has the means leave the country. He should not have been granted bail.
If people are considered "innocent" before trial, then why aren't they free to go immediately after arrest or being charged? I know why, but do you?
@Bianca You're always "guilty" until proven innocent. You're typically not incarcerated though.
Â
Â
If this guy has violently raped 5 women and then threatened their lives he has also concealed his true self from his family, friends and colleagues so Iâm going to guess that HE IS A FLIGHT RISK and throw out the bullsh*t flag on reducing his bail from $3M to $1m and letting him walk. Bet he's nowhere to be found by the time his trial rolls around.
Maybe we'll get lucky and one of the victims, or one of their family members will take care of this piece of trash before he has a chance to skip the country. If he's connected enough to get bail, he's connected enough to get away. Our "Injustice System" strikes again. (strikes OUT)
@Wolfen Washington State Liberal Justice where they provide more victims, pamper the rapists/child molesters and repeat the cycle over and over again. Disgusting...
Money talks and BS walks..... Amazing the powers that be lowered his bail... disgusting!
Just what we need. This pervert back on the streets. Who is accountable when he re-offends?
@Klondiko If he re-offends, he is accountable. He's "innocent" until proven guilty.
Apparently the wealthy and well-connected are held to different bail standards than us normal slobs.
Â
Can't wait to see his legal defense, which I'm sure involves "they were prostitutes so I couldn't be a rapist."
How is this even possible? I still think he's sleeping with the judge. I can't come up with any other rational reason for this.
This guy will grab a plane to South America.
@DDG I think so as well. He will be out of the country or found with a self inflicted gun shot in a few days.
@SkaBob  @DDG Well, let's start a "pool"...because I honestly cannot see him sticking around to defend himself; I bet it will be one or the other, like SkaBob says...
@DMT Either that or he thinks money will make it all go away.... I bet you the lawyer retained for this vermin will be a foxy trixy son of a gun.... slick words etc.! barf. :( I don't like our justice system here in Washington State. :(
@SkaBob I think the scumbag should do the latter....
The people who wrote letters in his support should be ashamed of themselves. Though he hasn't been found guilty (yet) by a court of law, using professional connections to help this guy reduce his bail brings into considerable question the ability to judge character.
What a weird headline. The fact he's been charged is very old news. The "news" is that he is being bailed out, apparently a fact not newsworthy or something. Fail.
@PilonidalCyst They've updated it but it's still almost devoid of new information.Â
