Cologne bottle causes grenade scare in Seattle

SEATTLE -- A section of a downtown Seattle street was closed for about two hours Monday evening after someone reported seeing a man dressed in black clothes drop what looked like a hand grenade into a public trash compactor.
Police spokesman Jeff Kappel said Third Avenue near University Street was reopened to traffic after the item was examined and determined to be harmless, though it was ominous looking from a distance.
The item turned out to be a bottle of Viktor & Rolf "Spicebomb" men's cologne, which Kappel said looks similar to a "pineapple-style" hand grenade.
The item will be submitted into evidence for further forensic analysis.

Only in Seattle does this happen. The sheple have found thier leader and are waiting to follow him to the sea....
Â
We may have won the battle, but I think the terrorists won the war.
You people are so stupid!
LOL
People these days are paranoid.
@3rase   I think people these days are more careful, with good cause.
Why do I think this was some kind of publicity stunt?
At least they didn't try to take it through airport security...Â
Doesn't SPD have anything better to do - like violate someone's rights.
Make a scene with 'Frag for Men' by Ralph Dior....
Â
Wow, could this be in any more poor taste?

Â
I'm sure it will be nicely wrapped for that forensic analysis, probably scheduled for the morning of Dec 25.
Â
I don't mean to sound unhip... BUT.. what is the fascination with grenades now? I see scummy looking people all over the Puget Sound area with grenade window stickers, grenades designs on t-shirts, purses, etc. Â I mean we get it.. you're edgy and tough. Â But really? Â anyone want to share what the aftermath of a grenade looks like on a human? Â Why are we making them cool, exactly?Â
@DT Part of it is a Green Day thing. Their punk rock opera 'American Idiot' uses an old pineapple grenade as a logo.
Well, it's gotten everybody talking about the new, expensive product that could be a great holiday gift... hope it wasn't just a publicity stunt...
Dang, thats only few dollars less than a real grenade.....
"Spicebomb"? Sounds atrocious!
Looks like the work of the gay mafia. Why would anyone throw a $100 bottle of cologne in the trash?
@Vince Maybe it was empty? Â
@Vince Why do people still use this stuff? Great for people with terrible BO.
@MyTacoma  @Vince The Mayor and Seattle City Council is already working to ban the 16oz bottle.
@Vince Who says it was full?
Â
Great smelling perfume! Definitely a scent that a man should pick up for his lady this holiday season ;-)
@Vince I was thinking the same thing. New fragrance and costly. And the person who saw it did not go over to look? surely if it was a grenade it would have gone off after a few minutes.Â
@Northend  @Vince Gone off in a matter of seconds, not minutes, if the pin had been pulled...Â
