SEATTLE (AP) - Democrat Suzan DelBene has defeated Republican John Koster in Washington's most-contested congressional race.
In early returns Tuesday night, DelBene led by 54 percent to 46 percent for Koster in the race for the open 1st Congressional District seat.
Spanning from the suburbs of King County to the Canadian border in Whatcom County, the sprawling, redrawn district was seen as a toss-up throughout the election.
DelBene, a former Microsoft executive, defeated a group of Democrats in the primary to face Koster, who faced little opposition from his own party. DelBene used more than $2 million of her own money in the campaign.
After the 2010 Census, Washington gained a congressional seat. The state now has 10.

3 "rape" candidates from the GOP nationally went down in flames:
Â
Mourdock, Akin and Koster.
Â
Good riddance.Â
@NorthwestEconomist - Right on. I wouldn't blindly support anyone who announced such medically  ignorant statements regarding rape, regardless of party affiliation. Just crazy.
The sooner they take down all of those 4x8' Koster signs the better. They better find a different name to put on them next time.
On the bright side, it wasn't an overwhelming victory, so if the Rs or Libertarians can get their act together and nominate a non-lune (I know, I know, fat chance) it is still possible to kick her out for a better alternative of some sort.
Time to make this millionaire pay her fair share.
I am happy indeed. As a Microsoft executive she must have grown some skin, be able to separate BS from true issues, so heck yes, good for her and good for us.  If she spends her own money to get in and serve the public, she must mean it. Congratulations. BTW, I still hope McKenna makes it too - I am not married to any party.Â
@Komo Dragon Agreed and well said, Dragon. Â
Â
Cracks me up how trolls always pop up to make comments referencing things they "heard" but did not experience first hand as if gossip were factual.
Â
Don't feed the troll - it will eventually toddle off to another board...LOL.
@Komo Dragon From everything I've heard in recent years about what it takes to climb it management at MSFT, I'd say that is a strong negative mark against her - playing the brown-nosing political game has become far more important than technical competence these days.
I think I'm going to be sick
Its amazing what money will buy.

There goes the only person whom cared about farmers. KOSTER 2016!
@Chrisdena Hey, when you nominate an idiot, you get an idiot for a candidate.  He was close before 'the rape thing'.  Got what he deserved.
@dghuggs Read the facts, then assuming Democratic supported commercials have all the truth. I've met him personally, I voted for him because he wants to fight for the dairy farmers and other farmers. We need the farmer's voice in government. Not another "Got rich in Microsoft" person, who doesn't know blood, sweat, and tears. Providing food to America's table.
@Chrisdena  @dghuggs Whatsa maata? Repeat yourself when you are freaked out?
@Chrisdena We have ourselves a BOT. I thought those were a TOSsable offence. Oh and speakung about facts, maybe you can enlighten us on this one: http://youtu.be/sU_tqVz_bcs This isn't the type of people that should be in office!! (Thank G-d he's not!)
Â
@Chrisdena It's his own fault.  Anyone that refers to rape as "the rape thing" deserves to lose.

@Chrisdena  @eleman30 Um, the fact IS that he said the " rape thing"
