Deputies: Monroe man arrested after 'sexting' teenage girl

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- Detectives say a 22-year-old Monroe man sent sexually explicit text messages and pictures to a girl he believed to be 14-years old.

Nathan Daniel Wood was arrested this week and charged with communication with a minor for immoral purposes, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say Wood first came in contact with a woman claiming to be 19-years old on a social media app. It turns out the girl was actually 14, and when her mother found out about the app, she went online to tell any possible suitors that her daughter was underage, according to the sheriff's office.

"I began to tremble because I saw that this was a site about dating and she was misrepresenting herself on the site," the girl's mother said. She did not want to be identified. The mother made contact with two men who her daughter had been conversing with on the website, telling both that her daughter was only 14. Deputies say one of the men immediately broke off contact with the young girl, but the second -- Wood -- did not.

"He used the word 'statutory.' And I responded with something like what a 14-year-old would say. 'I don't really know what that means, but I know that I like older guys,'" the girl's mother said.

Posing as her daughter, the mother went online and began chatting with Wood. Over the course of several days, deputies say Wood engaged in sexually explicit conversations and sent photos of his genitalia to the person he believed was 14. The mother eventually called the sheriff's office and handed over the girl's cell phone.

"I knew all along I'd be turning this in. I just thought I would let it ride all weekend and maybe see what I could gather," the girl's mother said.

Detectives with the sheriff's Special Investigations Unit began posing as the girl and resumed communications with Wood. They later arranged a meeting with the 22-year-old, and when he showed up they arrested him.

Deputies say Wood admitted he planned to have sex with the girl and said he brought a condom with him to the meeting. Wood made is initial court appearance on Wednesday, where a judge set his bail at $75,000. He's scheduled to appear in court again in early September.
