Deputies: Ore. man hit father in the head with an ax

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Roseburg man is in jail after deputies say he attacked his 73-year-old father with an ax, hitting him several times in the head. The same man, Hunter Goldberg, was arrested last year in a bizarre case involving an alleged goat sacrifice plot.
Officials with the Douglas County Sheriff's office say they were called to a house in the 600 block of Rio Nes Lane, which is off of Sunshine Road east of Roseburg on Wednesday afternoon.
The call came after a woman reported that her son had attacked her husband with an ax, and they were on the way to the hospital.
Authorities say that they spoke with the victim at Mercy Medical Center, and learned that the alleged attacker was his son, Hunter C. Goldberg, 24, who lived at the residence.
Officials say Josiah Paul Goldberg was sitting in his chair when his son came into the room and attacked him with the ax, striking him several times in the head.
Josiah Goldberg was able to fight off the attack and take the ax.
After a standoff with police at the residence, Hunter Goldberg was taken into custody. He's currently lodged in the Douglas County Jail on first degree assault and attempted murder charges.
Josiah Goldberg was treated for what authorities say were severe facial lacerations.
This isn't Hunter Goldberg's first brush with the law, in late 2011, he was arrested for trying to steal a goat that he had allegedly wanted to sacrifice for the new year.
Hunter is in a better place now.Â
The father should have shot his son.
Oh good grief, they need to seriously get this guy locked up and on medication.Â
Is this guy taking his name a little too seriously?
ouch
People need to enunciate.Â
Â
"Mom, Can I burrow the car?"
Â
"MAY I burrow the car. Ax your father."
Â
I see where our evolution is heading and it's not pretty folks.
Likely another sad situation of mental illness and parents that can't turn him out and end up living in fear.
Even after getting hit in the head this 73 yr old guy still managed to take the axe away from this guy.
That's a tough old bird. Still nothing says I love you more than a few hits in the head with an axe.
Sounds like another future mass killer.
This twisted little freak needs to be taken out of society . . . . permanently.
. . period .
@ZIPPY Yeah - permanently. I dont think I even could hit anyone in the head with an ax. Makes me sick.
Seems like son was a horrible shot.
Yep time to ban axes or require everyone one to wear a hard hat.
@Blindman Amazing to see a commenter with your reputation regurgitate the NRA partyline.
You'd think you had more brains. Time to come up with something new, OK? Because the "ban this", "ban that" line is really old.
Â
Kinda makes you look like a simpleton. Actually, not kinda.
Repeating the same old line over and over again MAKES you a simpleton:
sim·ple·ton  (smpl-tn)n. A person who is felt to be deficient in judgment, good sense, or intelligence; a fool.
Uhhh.... you do realize that you could say the EXACT same thing to the people who make the same tired comments about banning guns after shootings, right ?
Â
The frustration, annoyance, questioning of intelligence... all of that you feel every time you read one of those comments: Yeah, that's exactly how a responsible gun owner feels everytime someone talks about taking their guns away because some wacked out scumbag criminal commits a crime with a firearm. By the way, I agree with you- I tire of it the same way I tire of the 387 'bubba' comments that appear on every sexual crime story's comments. But understand... this is the point when it comes to your original argument. To illustrate the rediculousness of the reactionary fearmonger policies that apply, in the eyes of supporters, ONLY to firearms. Using the exact same logic/reasoning for another item ? Preposterous !!!!!
@SegKast Self defense is different than some other subjects purely because its an inalienable right issue. People have the inalienable right to protect themselves and their families. Thats why its in the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights spells out in plain english some of our inalienable rights that the government or no one else is allowed to trample.
YES, " the "ban this", "ban that" line IS really old.Â
So why do you Lib.s keep demanding it ? ?
The "same old line" of thinking you can ban guns from deranged, evil freaks is easily the most foolish. Makes YOU the simpleton.
Â
@DrugFighter  @Blindman Makes as much sense as a government that wants to ban personal possession of firearms, which accounts for about 9000 deaths a year, versus the government killing tens of thousands and sometimes hundreds of thousands of people overseas. Tell the government to lay down all their arms and maybe a lot of people here will lay down their arms.
Someone please tell me that this little cretin hasn't reproduced!
better put a bullet in his head now while you have him in custody
I hope the man will have a speedy recovery, and I know its going to be hard on him after his son did this. I pray for the family that they find strength. I really hate to say it but I think the son is into devil worship or something. He wanted to sacrifice a goat for the new year. What kind of person would even think about that?
@Just my say Someone who has read Leviticus? According to that, sacrificing goats is the way to absolve you of your sins.
@therunner  @Just my say But Leviticus restricts those doing the sacrificing to priests. I wonder if he is a priest.Â
Sounds like his bricks finally fell off the back of truck...
Gotta ban those assault axes!
@Chico Give it a rest, it's really immature and getting really old.Â
@Just my say @Chico You are right. It IS immature and getting old. That is the whole point, isn't it? Guns don't kill people all by themselves any more than axes do. It takes a derranged person to commit these sorts of violent crime. This guy obviously didn't have a gun, so he went for the next nearest weapon....
@TheBronze  @Just  @Chico Oh, and shocker, the guy lived and only suffered cuts while being able to fight off the attack instead of getting shot from 10 feet away and bleeding out on his floor.  Â
Â
@Just my say  @Chico You don't think that if he had used a gun that the anti gun folks wouldn't be all over it?
@DarkParty  @Just my say  @Chico Lately I've been thinking that maybe, just maybe, taking into account my life experiences, like the time that guy who outweighed me by 100lbs put a gun in my face and firing a shot through the ceiling in the process, etc, etc, that only cowards need guns. Seriously.
