ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — A Benton County sheriff's deputy, a Salem police officer and a fleeing suspect have been wounded after exchanging gun fire following a police chase that ended near Albany.

The Albany Democrat-Herald reports that officers and the suspect exchanged gunfire Saturday night about seven miles northwest of Albany after law enforcement agencies began a search for a man who had crashed a possibly stolen car in a chase and fled on foot.

The two wounded officers were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The armed suspect, who was also shot, was flown to a Willamette Valley hospital. All names were withheld to allow time to notify family members.

The two officers are in serious condition at the hospital.
