WHITE CENTER, Wash. -- King County sheriff's detectives hope a newly-released suspect sketch will help them track down the man who brutally assaulted and raped a woman earlier this month in White Center.

Just after midnight on March 7, a woman was walking by herself on Roxbury near 24th Avenue when a stranger approached her and asked for a cigarette.

Detectives say when the woman handed over a cigarette, the man attacked her. He dragged her into a nearby lot, where he beat and repeatedly raped her, according to police.

The rapist then grabbed the woman's purse and took off on foot. Police have yet to find the purse.

The rapist is described as a black man in his early 20s who stands roughly 5'9" tall and has a "medium build." At the time of the attack he was wearing a dark hoodie and jeans. Detectives say he may have injured his hand during the assault.

Anyone with information about this attack is asked to call the King County Sheriff's Office at 206-296-3311.
