GRAHAM, Wash. -- Firefighters were able to pull a bedridden Graham man from his burning home Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out around 10 a.m. in the 23000 block of 65th Ave Ct. E. in Graham, according to officials with Graham Fire & Rescue.
A bedridden man named Marty Lewis and his wife, Masako, were stuck inside the burning house. Lewis said the microwave first caught fire after Marty tried to warm up a blanket.
"This morning I have kind of a smell and I hear pop pop like popcorn popping," Masako said.
The fire quickly spread to the attic. By the time Lt. Jeff Davison and firefighter Jorel Cornier were able to get inside, they found a home full of smoke and Marty in his hospital bed.
"He was just laying there. He looked kind of confused as to what was going on," Cornier said.
Cornier and Davison picked him up and helped him the 74-year-old out of the house.
"They came in to get me and make sure everything was okay," Marty said.
Marty is a retried Air Force tech sergeant and former auto mechanic who has been battling several cancers.
"It's great. I love being able to save lives," Cornier said. "It's such a rewarding job. This is what we live for."
Firefighters were able to knock the fire down before the house was destroyed. Investigators it will cost roughly $5,500 to repair the home.

I am so glad they are ok.
Okay people the firemen did not save him!  His daughter and wife saved him!! Yes the firemen helped so yeah for them!!! And I say this being the neighbor that called 911 and my hubby who is a fireman who was at his station this morning! So his wife and daughter are the TRUE HEROS!!!!!
@Kortney did you see with your own eyes his daughter and wife save him? If you say that i would have to say you are flat out lying because you were not in the house. If you watch King 5's video,  his wife is on camera saying that she wouldn't have known what to do if the firemen hadn't came and helped. There is no reason a firefighter would lie about helping a man out of his house just to take the credit. Furthermore, by saying what you did, you are completely discrediting the fire department as well as your husband. Come on...
@Kortney Kortney... that's terrific that the wife and daughter were there to help assist this man, but it sounds pretty clear in the story that the firemen actually carried this guy out.
Glad they are okay but who puts a blanket in the microwave to warm up (aside from the two in this story)?
@PrairieDawn Sorry the guy is 74 and going through strong chemo thoughts are not always right and with his mind but an awesome person!!! Could not be more thoughtful neighbors and more with it people minus the chemo!!!! Marty is the best person you could ever meet!!! It makes me sad the chemo has taken over his thoughts and life.
Nice grab Jeff and Jorel. Â Strong work!
glad they made it out okay
Â
Thanks to the Graham  fireman and my wife who helped my neighbors this morning. It could have been way worse than it was if it wasn't for you guys.
@Matt@E-103 You know your wife is awesome!!! :)

Thank you forsaving this man from the fire. We need more Americans like you.
