Prosecutors: Yakima man had sex with child nearly 50 times
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Prosecutors filed formal charges Wednesday against a Yakima man accused of child rape. Travis Padgett is also charged with giving methamphetamine to a minor.
Details of the allegations against Padgett are disturbing. Padgett has a long history of run-ins with the law but, so far, has managed to avoid serious jail time, KIMA-TV reported.
But it was an unexpected revelation to a Student Resource Officer that sparked this current investigation.
Police said Padgett started a sexual relationship with someone he knew well and that he took advantage of being in a position of trust.
According to court documents, Padgett was giving a child meth and having sex with the child repeatedly. Padgett allegedly made the child have sex with older woman as well.
Investigators said the two had sex nearly 50 times since last summer.
"It's very, very disturbing and very disheartening for anybody," said Capt. Rod Light, Yakima police spokesperson.
Police say they found evidence during a search of Padgett's basement.
"Based on some of the evidence we recovered it would lead me to believe that it probably wasn't a basement being used for storage," Light said.
KIMA discovered a connection between Travis Padgett and well-known Yakima felon Jacob Lucey.
Lucey was originally sent to prison for his involvement in a shooting at Padgett's home over drug money. Lucey recently made headlines when he never returned from a jail furlough.
Padgett has 10 prior arrests, but none involved serious jail time.
Padgett's bail was set at $1 million.

 @Clergybones  I am going to have to agree. This is irresponsible thinking, not to mention speaking the thoughts aloud could cause long term harm to a young mind. Nearly, and even possibly more damaging than a sexual assault in the long term because the attitude would be exposed to uncountable people over years of time. Thus degrading morals in the slow process that we are all observing in this nation.  Our words have an affect on our following generations. @The WA Mama Prosecuting a person for their crimes is acceptable. Coming up with evil and torturous ways to dismember someone for their crimes is not. I can't imagine how your kids are turning out. Teaching them about burning and torturing criminals for their crimes. You have nothing but pure evil in your heart. If we can't give him the death penalty then how about at least castration?
You realize castration is only the removal of one's testicles and in most cases does not prevent normal sexual function or enjoyment right? it's a nearly pointless thing to do.
 @JFR The only form of castration used in the US is chemical.. which is where they essentially give the s.o. estrogen injections which lowers their sex drive. Â

That's actually a common misconception, even without testicles the sex drive and function are both there. If this was the case a man being "snipped" for birth control would suffer the same effects as one being fully castrated. Please educate yourself better thanks!

We need to change the laws. Rapist, pedophiles and first degree murder convictions should be immediate death by firing squad.
 @Half-Baked Completely true. Nearly every story I read about a pedophile or rapist has some reference to earlier crimes or earlier victims. Those that can be re-habbed are too few and far-between to be worth the risk.

 @izwideopen It is truly unfortunate that someone having sex with a 15yo is labeled a "sex-offender" and someone who rapes a 5yo is a "sex-offender". I know there are different degrees, but in the simplistic mind, a sex-offender is a sex-offender. These laws & terminology promote "black & white" judgement and add to the problem. One may just be a teen in love with a younger teen, while the other deserves the firing squad.

People are so unaware that this happens all the time. There ought be a difference. The title "Sex Offender" ought be used where it belongs. There are people who are labeled that for urinating in the wrong place at the wrong time.

@Half-Baked - when I was 15 I knew full well what I was doing. I don't think this should go unpunished but there is a HUGE difference between a 15 year old and yes...a 5 year old.
 @izwideopen Do you really think so? Outside of the fact that more lasting and less treatable damage could be caused to a 15 year old mind than a 5 year old, I see little difference.Â

10 prior arrests with little jail time. I hope his11th arrest will result with 20 years in the big house in Walla Walla. Put him in a cell with big Bubba, the man rapist.

How old is the child?
How old is the child and what happen to the women who was also with the child? I just get the feeling that the girl was a older teenager and was in a relationship with the man, and the parents were OK with it.
I don't believe that child predators become the way they are overnight. I sense that their feelings toward children--whether relational or sexual needs--develop at very early age, regardless of abuse or not. Perhaps even as early as childhood.Â

Our legal system does not have any consideration for the safety of the public. Therefore, the same people are free to continue to commit a large percentage of the crime, the number of victims increases, and while these people are free, they usually have a number of offspring which they neglect and abuse, causing the number of troubled people to rise exponentially.
How old was the child (not that it makes any difference)? Where was the child's parent(s) when this was going on?

now playing devil's advocate here, if it was a woman and she had sex with a boy lets say 14 or 15 will everyone e up in arms? Ok, now that's over with, once the courts make their decision then they should cut his junk off with a dull knife, without pain drugs.
You are forgetting about the meth. Â Plus, no where did it say the child was 14 or 15. Â If a woman did this to my son and provided him meth, you better believe heads would roll. Â

If this man is found guilty in a court of law, he should be executed immediately.  There is no reason for a disgusting piece of garbage like this to exist in our society.  This is what a true civilized society would do. Â
 @sfvcyco Your comment makes more sense than others. First a finding of fact in a court of law. First it's established beyond a reasonable doubt that he did in fact do as accused. Some people just don't stop and think.
