Domestic violence suspect runs from police, gets hit by car on I-5
STANWOOD, Wash. -- A foot pursuit that started as a domestic violence call in Stanwood ended when the suspect was hit by a car while trying to run barefoot across I-5.
Snohomish County deputies were called to a home in the 3000 block of 300th Street Northwest at roughly 9 p.m. on Friday. When they arrived, officers tried to handcuff a 25-year-old man, only to have him break free and take off running.
The man, who was not wearing shoes, tried to lose the officers by crossing I-5 near 300th Street NW.
He successfully made it across the southbound lanes, but was hit by a vehicle -- traveling at roughly 60 miles per hour -- while trying to cross the northbound lanes.
Witnesses said the man was clipped by a side mirror and knocked to the ground. He was able to get up on his own and deputies captured him moments later.
He was taken to a local hospital and is listed in serious condition. Washington State Patrol trooper Keith Leary said it appeared the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The driver who hit the man was not ticketed. A stretch of northbound I-5 was temporarily closed near the crash site.

"was hit by a vehicle -- traveling at roughly 60 miles per hour..." Â Dang!!! Â Where were all the reckless drivers driving at 90 miles per hour at that time???
@JackBauer Making their way through Skagit County, so they should be there soon...
"...traveling at roughly 60 miles per hour..."
Well, that eliminates the canadians.
You just have to love these type of stories!
Nothing like having tread marks across your face for the mug shot.
Maybe if he had shoes on, he would have made it across! Â
I feel for the guy who hit him - how traumatic would that be? Â Yikes.
Friggin Comical!!! Â It's incredible how many back wood Billy Bobs there are living around here.Â
"The driver who hit the man was not ticketed". REALLY? Why in the world would that even be a question? If the guy lives he should be forced to pay restitution to this guy that hit him on the highway. Iâm sure it was pretty traumatic for him.
Karma
@Bellevue Scott Oh, it happened! Someone who doesn't read the threads occurred.
@Bellevue Scott no it is Carma.
If he is truly guilty of domestic violence he totally got what he deserved. Maybe he will think twice before beating on someone again!!!
Anyone remember the game Frogger? That's what this reminds me of. Hehehe
Almost perfect ending. Â Almost.
What a knucklehead. As a suspect, not yet convicted or charged, did he really think that if he got away, for the moment, that the police would just give up looking for him? And of course, running across I-5...and barefoot no less...
Â
Just no words for this level of idiocy.
@Smokin Bear To run seems rather incriminating as well...
I know. People facing a speeding ticket will opt to run instead of just signing on the dotted line so they can add evading and resisting arrest to the charges.
Â
Just crazy.
Sounds like there just might a 12-step program in this guy's future.
Â
If he lives long enough.
We're due for a karma comment, even though that's not what it is or means.
@jelisized Thanks now we wont get one, way to ruin it for the rest of us :)
nothing quite like playing on the freeway.....
Poor guy, just driving along the freeway, and this loser runs in front of him...and now HE will get stuck with the deductible!
Kinda reminds me of the thief who stole a donation jar and ran out in front of a city bus a couple of yrs ago in Seattle (I believe).
Wow, I feel bad for the driver, he or she is just driving along I-5 and all of a sudden there is a moron running into the side of his/her car. I sure hope his/her car wasn't damaged.
Guess his wife drove faster than he could run.
S-T-RIKE!!! Â
@Drunken Fists I don't think its a strike.  It sounds more like a foul tip to me...
