Double murder suspect captured at Oregon motel

LINCOLN CITY, Ore. (AP) - An alert Oregon seaside motel employee helped police capture a Washington state man suspected of killing his grandparents after they picked him up from prison and hosted a welcome home party for him.
Tactical officers from several agencies swarmed to the tourist town of Lincoln City after a property manager at the WestShore OceanFront Suites recognized Michael Boysen's face and name after seeing him on television and called police early Tuesday morning.
Boysen, 26, checked in under his own name Monday night, motel owner Kent Landers told The Oregonian.
Police used a robot equipped with a video camera and a microphone to communicate with Boysen Tuesday in hopes of persuading him to surrender. After a tense daylong standoff punctuated with water cannon blasts, bullhorn shouts and tear gas, officers breached the door, which Boysen reportedly had barricaded with a refrigerator.
They found him lying on the floor on his back with apparently serious self-inflicted cuts, Lincoln City police Chief Keith Kilian said. He was flown to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland where nursing supervisor Judy Pahl said Wednesday his condition had been upgraded from critical to serious.
No officers were hurt in the standoff, which Kilian termed "very successful."
King County sent two detectives to Oregon in hopes of talking with Boysen, Sheriff John Urquhart said. Depending on his medical condition, he'll have to go through extradition, then King County hopes to "get him back here for trial," the sheriff said Tuesday evening.
The bodies of Boysen's grandparents were found Saturday in their Renton home, a day after Boysen was released from prison.
Officials also learned that Boysen had made threats against his relatives and law enforcement officials while behind bars. That information was passed on to King County deputies, which is why Urquhart called Boysen extremely dangerous at a Monday news conference. Investigators also determined that Boysen had been searching the Internet for gun shows.
Boysen just finished serving nine months in prison on a burglary conviction, said Washington state Corrections Department spokesman Chad Lewis. Boysen had no violent infractions in prison - "nothing extraordinary," Lewis said.
He served a previous sentence between 2006 and February 2011 for four robbery convictions. Those convictions were related to an addiction to narcotic painkillers, Lewis said.
Boysen's grandparents picked him up from prison Friday and drove him to meet his probation officer and to get an identification card from the Department of Licensing. They hosted a welcome home party for him Friday night.
Boysen's mother discovered the bodies Saturday evening. She had been called by a family member who became concerned that the couple hadn't answered their door.
The motive for the killings remains unknown, King County sheriff's Sgt. Cindi West said.
"Between the family and detectives we have no idea," she said. "It's just bizarre. The family loved and supported him the whole time he was in prison."
The King County medical examiner's office identified the couple Tuesday as Robert R. Taylor, 82, and Norma J. Taylor, 80. They died Saturday. The cause and manner of their deaths remains under investigation, the medical examiner said.
Urquhart said it was not known why Boysen fled south. "We didn't know he had gone to Oregon, had no particular reason to look there."

I'd like to know what prison psychologist missed the clues on this guy.
In most of the reports I have read, there is only reference to his grandparents picking him up and shuttling him around to acclimate back into society.  Not much reference to his actual parents. Are they even in the picture here? Makes you wonder why this poor kid was in so much trouble.Â
Shouldn't be much longer and he will be back in Washington state with free medical care, three squares a day with cot and TV along with weight room down the hall...
Boysen, 26, made threats against members of his family and law enforcement while behind bars, Corrections Department spokesman Chad Lewis said Tuesday
"Sources went to our staff at the Monroe Correctional Center and told us he had been threatening to do all this," Lewis said.
So he mentions this to the fine staff in Monroe BEFORE they let him out the gate, but they fail to mention it to anyone. They probably should have at least called his Probation Officer and immediate family don't you think? Â
@Jeff Valdez No Jeff, this information was delivered by his cellies, not staff. Just remember...'When they open their mouth's, They're lying'!
@Jeff Valdez Valid question.
And if Law Enforcement would have SHOT him that would have been WRONG also ... Â
this whole story....very sad.
Great. Now we have to pay for his medical expenses along with a lengthy, extended and expensive trial. Should of shot him there and save us all a lot of tax dollars.
Right On!
Should have ended it right there and then!!!!!
So right!
Life flight?.. really?, I'm glad the Oregonians get to pick up that tab..lol
@mrslappy Except they're bringing him back up here and we'll probably be paying to keep him alive.
I told ya, He's the guy
@BuddyHolly Okay troll, you can go away now.
@BuddyHolly what do you want a medal?
@BuddyHolly goodwork there chief. they probably couldn't have done it without you....
Mental illness. Motives of the mentally ill are often in their own heads. Paranoid delusions? Something beyond a "normal" motive would be my guess. I'll bet as this story progresses they will find mental illness and/or DD in his background that the family tried to help with. Impulse control problems, etc. Hence the reason for the "unknown" motive. Then the self-harm. He felt guilty after the fact. They'll probably try to plead insanity and send him to a mental hospital. Just my guess of course, from watching this story unfold.
@Thunder Is sociopathy a mental illness?  He PLANNED this, for God's sake!
@anon4444 Interesting. People with mental illness can have a very sharp mind, despite it being psychotic or deranged, with a high level capability to plan. And, conversely, there are many non-mentally ill people who do not have the ability to plan.
@anon4444 ever heard of antisocial personality disorder?
Taxpayers would have been way, way better off if they had finished him off. That's what he deserved.
@kangaroo may his grandparents rest in eternal peace.
@kangaroo I never understand comments like this. Are you only kidding or do you actually prefer to have the police kill people who are suspects of a crime? Do you realize how privileged we are to have things like due process and to be considered innocent until proven guilty?
You hit the nail on the head! Why do so many people want to take the easy way out and just want more blood shed? We are very priviledged to have due process and be considered innocent until proven guilty, even when evidence points to so much certainty. Glad there are still level headed people out there. Don't get me wrong, I totally believe that anyone who takes the life or lives of others should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but only after being proven guilty.Â
@panda bear I think maybe they are frustrated because they see that the legal system so often fails and the violent and dangerous are returned to the streets.
@kangaroo Willing to be judge and jury, but you have to rely on someone else to be executioner, eh? Or are you planning to take out your AR-15 and show us all "how it's done"?
...can't even be happy unless more blood is shed! THAT is a P.O.S.!
@JLS1950 @kangaroo You know JLS I've seen you talk of knowing Jesus, but I've also over time watched the hate you exhibit towards conservatives and so on. Now if I recall correctly it was Jesus who talked of throwing stones and logs in eyes etc and frankly your postings have indicated you should look to the person you believe in for how to treat others. Or perhaps you missed the greatest commandment of loving God with all your heart and then your neighbor likewise. Just an observation.
@SeattleJoe Argumentum ad hominem (circumstantial) is an invalid form of argument according to Aristotelian logic rules, but it is commonly employed by those who are pierced by conviction and discover they have no other arguments to fire back.Â
What you demonstrate is that you have never truly read the whole of the Sermon On the Mount (Matthew chapters 5 - 7) much less Jesus' excoriation of the scribes (Tannaim) and Pharisees (self-righteous religious "conservatives") in Matthew 23 - or His warnings against self-righteous complacency in the following two chapters. Virtually the whole of Jesus's public ministry was dedicated to challenging hypocrisy, greed and self-righteous complacency - a few miracles thrown in to confirm His authority. Jesus instructed His followers e.g. (paraphrased) "I do what I see my Father do: you do what you see me do and you'll be just fine!"Â
It is not "love" to let your neighbor continue in the sin of hypocrisy and hatred unchallenged. In fact, it is personally dangerous - see Ezekiel 33:7-9.
Don't try to use the bible to criticize a Christian unless you first submit yourself to the full authority of that bible and of the central Person of that bible - the Lord Jesus Chris - in whom there is GREAT reward!
WHAT???!!! Oregon police know how to capture an "armed and dangerous" suspect without shooting him 35 times???!!!
@JLS1950Â SHOULD HAVE,,,,
And just as things were getting interesting, the person hosting the police scanner radio feed at www.radioreference.com stopped broadcasting.
What a monster and bastard! This guy killed perhaps the only people left that cared for him and forgave him for his prior "wild life" and mistakes. His grandparents were so nice to him and drove him around to get his life back together, and threw him a party for his return, and how does he "re-pay" them, by killing them. This is just unbelievable... you think he would have been so thankful for the support and his family not betraying him like mine and other people's would have. If I ever went to prison, I'd lose all my family's respect and support for sure... this guy was lucky to retain his family's support after all he had done. What a cold, cold move. This piece of trash needs to get life behind bars. Never do this loser a favor again lol.Â
So, another 2-3 million to prosecute and another 2 million or so to house him for 20 years at which time he'll be released again at about age 46 w/ 20 years of hitting the weight stack behind him. Will you be ready?
@bagsofdirt Descriptive "handle" there...
@bagsofdirt And what is your solution?
I'm sorry a sharpshooter didn't sever his spinal cord above the waist. Â That would have been a fitting way for this monster to spend the rest of his life. Â
Nice job, police.
What a pile of politically motivated crap. The only ones injecting guns into this story are the socialist progressive sheepeople bogging. This story never had anything to do with guns. This POS even wounded himself with a sharp object.
Â@oldster70, actually, @socialjusticeforallm ade this 'a gun issue' with some BS posts about how he probably used a gun, then when they found out he didn't, they went on about how he would find a gun, which we all know is also a pile of garbage.
Woo hoo! Â What a relief, especially for his family.
Imagine that, this suspect that had a whole weekend to find a gun and never could. I mean per all you anti gunners he should have had a whole arsenal including assault weapons with 100 round magazines with a whole weekends worth of time since all those guns are just so easy to get a hold of. There had to be at least one gun show he could have attended to equip himself. Per you anti gunners even the most dumbest of criminals can just walk anywhere to get a gun.
Sarcasm off, I am glad they apprehended this guy without anyone else getting hurt or killed. I hope he spends the rest of his life behind bars at least if he is proven to have killed his grandparents.
To the family I am sorry for your loss and I hope you survive the coming media storm with little discomfort. The news will have no conscious as they all hunt you down looking for the smallest of comments/event to sell their services. They will be nothing more then vultures.Â
@Beam_Me_Up This guy wasn't smart enough to check in under an assumed name, what would make you think he's smart enough to find a gun? There appears to be plenty of people out there who are smart enough to find a gun, at least if you look at the statistics of people who are killed every year with them.
@justmyopinion @Beam_Me_Up Most hotels that I have stayed at require ID and just being out of prison I would imagine he did not have the time to get fake ID. But lets look at the statistics of finding guns as you say:
Sandy Hook - The killer killed his own mother to get guns, I guess someone would say he was smart, not me
Tucson - He passed a background check and bought his guns legally even though he had mental issues
Aurora - He passed background checks just like the ones congress is trying to shove down law abiding citizens throats
Just think of the millions of dollars that will be spent on useless background checks all so that the liberals can sleep better at night thinking this will teach the criminals and murderers that you don't mess with paperwork.
I would rather see the millions of dollars spent on mental health issues that could have been used to prevent these killings. I would rather see the millions of dollars used to keep hardened criminals off our streets. I would rather see the millions of dollars used to stop gang violence. But no, the liberals don't want to take credit for the mess they have made of America. They don't want to pitch in and accept that some people just should not be released from prisons. They just want to live in their fantasy worlds pretending that smart and dumb criminals just need a hug, they just need some love that they don't get in prison, at least not the right type of love.
This country is so messed up even if you did get your way and had guns banned you would still have murders and violent crimes. We need to address the issues of why people are like this and once that is solved you will not need any more gun control. Switzerland has a population with a lot of guns but a very low crime rate. England has no guns and a huge violent crime rate. There is a way to end this violence and it does not start with bans or regulations. It starts with acknowledging the problems start with people and fixing it there.
@Beam_Me_UP  Very well said! Your thoughts and reasoning are spot on. We need politicians that think like you : )Â
Very well said. I thonk you will like this.>Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â http://www.safeshare.tv/w/UAGOcLSuLX

@cyclops @Beam_Me_Up Really and you know this how? I don't recall seeing police in my neighborhood patrolling the houses just full of unsecured guns to steal and I don't live far from where his grandparents were killed. We have not seen the final autopsy reports that state time of death but he could have had at least a few hours before the police were notified to break into a house to secure a gun. Oh and just to make sure you understand me I will lower myself to your playground rules, double dufus to you.
Then suddenly Akjohn committed a slight breach of etiquette when he skipped the "double dog dufus" and went straight for the throat with a "Well I triple dog dufus to you" !
@cyclops Interesting that you deleted you own comment to me but for the readers here:
"
cyclops said
Beam_Me_Up Its a little harder to get a gun when you have police from 2 states hot on your trail dufus."
@cyclops @Beam_Me_Up He was caught because of a sharp clerk...who called the cops. I wouldnt exactly call that "hot" on his trail, especially since he checked in under his own name... Not the sharpest tool in the shed now was he?
How come when ever an anti gun liberal doesn't like an aurgument they start the name calling?
If I stormed in and found him bleeding, I might have taken my time giving him first aid. Oh no, I just offended another liberal or two.
