Driver arrested after hitting cop car, 3 other vehicles
SEATTLE - A 22-year-old man is behind bars after he hit a police car and three other vehicles with his truck late Saturday, then fled on foot before he was captured, Seattle police said.
One of the vehicles that he hit caught fire, but firefighters quickly responded and doused the flames.
The incident began at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday when an officer in a patrol car spotted a man recklessly driving a Ford pickup truck west on NW 62nd Street at 14th Avenue NW, said Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel.
The officer tried to pull over the pickup, but the suspect tried to back the truck away and struck the officer's car, causing minor damage to the car but no injury to the officer.
The suspect then fled the scene in his pickup. While fleeing, the suspect hit three other parked and unoccupied vehicles with his pickup, sparking a fire in one of the vehicles.
The suspect's pickup truck finally ground to a halt due to damage from all the collisions. The man then jumped out the truck and ran from the scene on foot.
As Seattle firefighters arrived on scene and put out the vehicle fire, officers chased after the suspect. He was found and arrested in the 1400 block of NW 63rd Street next to a house.
The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for investigation of felony eluding and felony hit-and-run.

Unfortunately this might be a long process. I was involved in a multiple-car accident many years ago. One of the vehicles was a patrol car (can't remember the agency), and I was still getting phone calls 4 years after the fact.
Â
If this *ahem* person hit more than one car AND involved a patrol car, if he has insurance, the insurance company will drop him ASAP. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get something for your troubles.
 @Cat Ferman I have uninsured motorist on my policy, but I have heard you often need to actually haul your insurance company into court to get them to pay up.Â
@Cat Ferman What would be the insurance company's reasoning behind that?Â
Now while I certainly don't advocate the arrest and detainment of our police when it happens the OTHER way, it sure would be nice if POLICE PERSONNEL were said to have hit and killed someone rather than their cars' being at automatic fault before the investigation even starts. Wouldn't FULL ACCOUNTABILITY be sweet?
That IS what a drivers license is, right? A prudent capability control assessment and signed statement of PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY?
I heard this jackass bought his car at a Port Angeles gun show.
Good one. Chuckle!!!Â
 @HonkeyCat Yes, that was very good :~}
"Dad, can I burrow your truck?"Â
wanna bet he had a felony warrant out, was DUI or driving on a suspended license?
@chandler I'm voting for FELONY JERK
Pretty soon the SPD is going to need a whole new fleet of cars.
@achoo2 They're on order.
 @achoo2 And guess who gets to pay for that when these boneheads try to run from the law...we do.Â
Rightfully so.
Â
Just like the comments about the woman who was hit by the cop on MLK way.
Â
Taxpayers pay for stuff the city uses.
was it a mid 70s beat up ford? I saw a crazy guy peeling around parking lots on fri night in central district
awesome!!!
So is the Seattle cop behind bars after he struck a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk???
 @JLS1950 Nope, Having a badge in Seattle mean you are always above the law. Â
Yes! As it should be.
Â
I support SPD!
Â
Have NEVER had a problem with any of them.
 @JLS1950 How about the Metro drivers who have hit more pedestrians than cops?Â
