Driver honks for Aberdeen police, gets arrested
ABERDEEN, Wash. (AP) - Aberdeen police arrested a man in their own parking lot this week when he drove up and repeatedly honked his horn.
He told police he wanted them to bring out a jail inmate so he could talk with him.
KXRO reports the driver refused to identify himself, although he did say he was armed with a knife.
Instead of bringing the inmate out, police arrested the driver for obstructing an officer and put him in jail too.

You know the saying....Honk if you're horny! This guy must have been! LOL!
Improper use of horn. Half the people in New York would be in jail.
I'm sure he did more than just honk his horn. Probably acted like the moron he is, got what he deserved!
He was arrested for being stupid.
 @fumblefacedolt I resent that comment. :)
Usually I have something to say about the articles I read but this one leaves be dumbfounded. All I can say is wtf?
@cm257n7 he's mentally ill, i know him. they had to taze him after he wiggled out of restraints... no psych eval needed i guess....
Â
@cm257n7 Kiro has an article from today with the headline "Police: Woman who passed off salt as meth calls 911 when angry customers return"Â
Â
This was from Centralia
@choliscott  @cm257n7 I saw that last night and the only justification I could think of (and I'm being generous) is that the possibility of being killed by angry meth heads outweighed the trouble she'd get in smoking weed with teenagers.
Now we can talk to his buddy. Problem solved.
I hope he hasn't reproduced.

I hear ya! It is refreshing however to know as an outsider that as soon as you enter the City limits of Aberdeen you are instantly the smartest person in the City! (snicker)
Since when did they start bringing out jail inmates to meet visitors in a parking lot? What a retard.
I know where is this guy from?
Wait, how is it obstructing an officer for honking your horn? What a BS charge! When is honking your horn a crime.. lighten up legislature and police, this is just ridiculous.
@Stopseattlepolice It is obstruction for refusing to identify yourself. The suspect was being investigated for a crime (improper use of horn, disturbing the peace, malicious mischief) and had a legal obligation to identify himself. He didn't so he was charged with the appropriate charge.
Â
Stop getting your "legal advice" from you tube and learn the law. But hey what do I know, I'm just a former cop.
@seattleemt Thank you for all you do!
@Stopseattlepolice
"when is honking your horn a crime.."
Â
In this Nanny state their is a law for most any occasion.
(1) Every motor vehicle when operated upon a highway shall be equipped with a horn in good working order and capable of emitting sound audible under normal conditions from a distance of not less than two hundred feet, but no horn or other warning device may emit an unreasonably loud or harsh sound or a whistle. The driver of a motor vehicle shall when reasonably necessary to insure safe operation give audible warning with his or her horn but shall not otherwise use such horn when upon a highway.

@al_wa @Stopseattlepolice But the vehicle was not "upon a highway", it was in a parking lot, though it was for a public building. And does "highway" include city streets?
@al_wa  @Stopseattlepolice The state supreme court ruled on a case saying honking is speech and is allowed.
Â
@giveitarest  @Stopseattlepolice The Washington Supreme Court decision was striking down a "county noise ordinance". The state high court ruled that the noise ordinance was overbroad. The decision was not relevant to RCW 46.37.380
@Stopseattlepolice My guess is the story is incomplete. For one thing, the guy was probably in the way of police cars and other people trying to enter and exit the parking lot and was probably refusing to move his vehicle. Whatever the rest of the story is, it's obvious from the length that some of the details are missing.
Now he can spend lots of time with his buddy!
Well I know of someone who received a ticket fro blowing his horn in Tukwila.
I had to laugh because in New York if your horn is broken you can't drive!
You can't fix stupid.
What an idiot!
What a cuckoo head!
@DMT How is he a cuckoo head? All he did was honk the horn. Definitely dumb to say you are armed with a knife tho, he could have left that part out. How is it a crime to honk your horn at the police? Come one, that is just ridiculous! Admit it DMT.
@Stopseattlepolice @DMT Obviously, he did more than honk his horn. His behavior and actions are not what the average person would considered "normal".
@JesssedTrytaCalmey @Stopseattlepolice @DMT What did his parents do to help him or protect his kids from him? If he is the single father of 2 kids and he is acting like that, he could potentially be a danger to them.
@The WA Mama  @Stopseattlepolice  @DMT he's been ill for months, no one gets him help!!! it's sad. and he's the nicest guy in the world--. has been normal except the last 6 months.... he's manic and paranoid; and the single father of two precious girls... he lives on his parent;s property so kids are fine. but it's just a miserable situation for the guy.; unbelievable that a psych eval wasn't done... i was excited to hear he was arrested, hoped he would get much needed help... so sad. Aberdeen mental health sucks.... and we've had double digit teen suicides this year... well done APD... winning.-- not.. If you read the original story on KXRO he stated to the police that he was "on official government business" might be a tell sign? duh.
Â
Â
@The WA Mama "not what the average person would consider normal" -  I'd say that's a safe statement  :-)   What a moron!
@Stopseattlepolice  @DMT Did you not read the law above? It is actually illegal to honk your horn when it is not reasonably necessary to insure safe operation. So, the guy is fully an idiot, loser, cuckoo head, etc. If you still don't agree, drive up to a police station, lay on the horn until they come out, and then you'll find out how much of an idiot you are.
@Stopseattlepolice  @DMT The driver refused to identify himself.  Told the police to bring out an inmate se he could talk to him.  I am with DTM on this.  Although I would have used the term D***A** to describe the guy.  He could have went inside and made a request to talk to the inmate.  They have a room just for that. Â
@FBrumfield  @Stopseattlepolice Yeah...the guy in the parking lot was being an annoyance at the very least - and that was before the knife was ever mentioned! ;)
@Stopseattlepolice Heh...admit "what," praytell? *yawn* NEXT!
I am glad to see this worked out for the guy. Now he can talk with his inmate buddy directly.
What a slow start to the day. I would have loved to see what the producer at KOMO had in his morning meeting:
Nathan Wilson: "Ok people, what do you have for me today? Johnson, give it to me!"
Johnson: "Well, Nathan, I have a story about a man in Aberdeen who honked at a police station and was arrested"
Nathan Wilson: "Johnson, absolutely brilliant! Good work!"
 @northwestsurfer I think it was funny ;-)
@northwestsurfer You should send them your email so they could get your approval on all the  news stories they might want to print.
Yeah.....going up to police, acting like an aggressive idiot, then for the finale, saying you have a knife.....nope, not stupid at all. Guess he got exactly what he was looking for.
Creative way to chat w/ your buddy 'in' jail as opposed to 'out'. Brilliant! <sarcasm trigger on>
