Driver injured in highway collision with 3 horses

PORT ANGELES, Wash. - A driver was injured early Monday when his car collided with three horses that were standing in the middle of Highway 112 as he rounded a curve, the Washington State Patrol reported.
Two of the horses were killed in the crash.
State troopers responded to the scene, about eight miles west of Port Angeles near Freshwater Bay, at about 6:05 a.m.
An investigation found that the driver, a 41-year-old Port Angeles man, was heading east on Highway 112 in a 1986 Volkwagen Jetta in the predawn darkness.
As he rounded a curve, there were three horses standing in the lane of travel. The driver was unable to stop in time and crashed into the horses.
The car then went off the highway and came to rest against an embankment.
The driver was treated at Olympic Medical Center and released. The car was totalled.
Two of the horses were killed in the wreck. The third horse survived and was returned to its owner.
