Dump truck crash blocks slide access road near Darrington

DARRINGTON, Wash. -- A dump truck laying gravel slid off and blocked the main access road to the SR-530 mudslide from the east, State Patrol troopers said.

The crash happened just after 1 p.m. on the powerline road, troopers said. No one was hurt, but it presented another challenge to the search and rescue efforts at the site of the slide.

"I think the road is affecting today's search, yes," said Bob Calkins with the State Patrol, adding most of the heavy equipment is coming in from the Darrington side.
