Dumpster fire forces hundreds to evacuate Seattle high rise
SEATTLE -- A Thursday night dumpster fire forced roughly 300 people to evacuate their high rise Seattle apartments.

Just before 6 p.m., someone on the 21st floor of an apartment building on 8th Avenue and Pine Street put something in the trash chute that caused a dumpster fire, according to Kyle Moore of the Seattle Fire Department.

The fire triggered the building's sprinklers and caused smoke to waft into every floor of the building, Moore said.

The sprinklers put out the fire in a matter of minutes, but roughly 300 people had to wait outside while firefighters used their equipment to suck out the smoke.

Moore said the building has a small amount of water damage, but none of the residents were injured
