KENT, Wash. - Flames roared through a two-story home in Kent's East Hills on Friday morning, but the couple who lives there wasn't home at the time and were unhurt.
Fire crews rushed to the scene, in the 13100 block of SE 232nd Court at about 6 a.m. after receiving a report of a house fire.
When firefighters arrived, they found flames shooting from both floors of the home and all four sides, said Kyle Ohashi of the Kent Fire Department. A towering column of smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles as day broke.
Crews continue to battle the flames, but the home appeared to severely damaged. All the windows were broken out, the siding is buckled and warped and the interior of the home is scorched and blackened.
Fire officials tell KOMO News that the couple who lives there had gone out for breakfast, and when they returned the home was in flames.
Ohashi says the fire was accidental, but there is too much damage to the house to determine the exact cause.
