OLYMPIA, Wash. -- An elderly woman was hospitalized Friday after a bizarre attack at her Olympia apartment complex.
Linda Gilson is friends with the victim and said the pieces of the puzzle aren't quite coming together. Her friend, a woman in her 70s, was sitting in the common area of the Casa Madrona housing complex working on a puzzle when witnesses say another resident attacked her with a chair.
"She was naked and saying something about she has to save the children," Gilson said.
Gilson said she's spooked by the bizarre attack.
"What if I had been out there?" she said. "It could have happened to me. It didn't matter who was sitting there."
The suspected attacker was taken to the hospital and police say she will undergo a mental evaluation. The elderly victim is recovering at a local hospital.
Representatives from the King County Housing Authority, which runs the community, refused to comment on the story.

Poor lady. Hope she's ok. Sounds like that attacker needs serious mental help.
Not to be nit-picky (Ok, I guess I am being nit-picky), but King County Housing Authority runs a community in Olympia?
@Bex Not an error, it is run by King County Housing Authority even though it is located in Olympia. My Mom used to live there and the maintenance people actually had to drive down from King County, all the billing was handled by people up in King County.
@Bex   I was wondering the same thing
Dementia often causes bizarre behavior. Hopefully the evaluation will pinpoint the cause of this action. I work with seniors and the majority of them take five or fewer medications per day, and one of those is usually plain aspirin.
When seniors are taking 20 to 30 or more pills a day mostly to shut them up what do you expect.Â
Â
I wouldn't turn my back on one of those gray haired crazies hyped up on drugs and you shouldn't either. Â
Â
You think its just a coincidence we have so many unsolved murders lately? Â
@Andrew Bush I understand that you are kidding, but my mom just recently passed away and I don't find your humor funny. Please be respectful of others when you are posting.
@Andrew Bush -LOL!!  I 'Get' that you were kidding - and it cracked me up - good one.
Â
But seriously, I do hope that the victim recovers and that the attacker gets help and is ok as well...
 @Smokin Bear  : )  me too. Â
@Andrew Bush Where does it say anything about her taking any pills, you are just assuming, not a good practice.
@Andrew Bush Not all elderly people take that many drugs. I have been a caregiver for elderly people for many years and have never seen any of them take that many pills. I now have a 92 year old lady and she takes NO pills. NONE. For 5 years I set meds up in a facility that had 95 seniors living there. None of them took that many pills. And there are some clean cut kids I would not want to turn my back on, they will rip you off in a heart beat. As for unsolved murders, I highly doubt a majority of them are done by Seniors.
A mix up with her meds? I hope they are both ok.Â
