Escaped prison inmate captured after call to mom

NORTH BEND, Wash. -- The manhunt for an escaped Monroe prison inmate came to an end Sunday night with his arrest.
Brandon Musto was captured on a trail near North Bend by a King County Sheriff's police dog unit. Officials say they were tipped off to his location when Musto asked to borrow a hiker's cell phone to call his mom.
Musto had been on the run since he broke out of the Monroe prison's minimum security ward on Wednesday. Investigators were puzzled by the timing of the escape, as Musto only had three months left to serve on his sentence.
Musto began serving time in September 2011 for a for vehicular assault conviction in Thurston County and was scheduled for release in February 2013.
There was nothing notable in Musto's prison record and his behavior had to be good to qualify for minimum security, Department of Corrections Spokesman Chad Lewis said Thursday.
Monroe police will transfer Musto to the Snohomish County Jail where he will likely face a felony charge for escape, which could result in a new prison sentence.

Just like the guy in Lacey that robbed a bank of $20 becuase he had no where else to go. No job, no money...It's sad that some people feel this is their only option.
DOH... Make you wonder what these turds are thinking!
Sure, when you escape prison, be sure to call your mom after a while. Nobody will be monitoring the phone. Hey, and be sure to borrow some stranger's phone to make the call, so that they can keep the secret of where you are from inquiring police!
Â
Now, if all other criminals would just heed this "advice", so many things would go so much better!
Mama's gonna wait up till you get in Mama will always find out where You've been Mamma's gonna keep baby healthy and clean Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe You'll always be a baby to me....

To late mom, he done Forestted up.
Three hots and a cot, rec room, t.v, computer access, free medical and dental, and a paid for education if one chooses on the INSIDE, compared to a weakening economy, bleak jobs outlook, overpriced healthcare, overpriced living expenses, and employers who cut hours to avoid paying health care on the OUTSIDE........it IS to ponder. Our prisoners have it easier than our elderly, and that in itself, is criminal.
@Wolfen They dont serve hot meals 3 times a day. Some states stopped serving hot meals altogether. Also, when released the state BOP usually sends you a bill for medical care while in jail.
Â
You make Jail sound like a resort. Ask someone whos been. If prisoners have it so much easier than the elderly, there must be a heck of a lot of elderly rapes, riots, elderly gangs and violent beatings.
Â
Also, lack of freedom of movement. Fear of life all times of day. Realistically, how could you even assume prison is better than most people have it who arent in prison? That, or you must be living somewhere a lot worst than the worst parts of washington.
@Wolfen I agree 110%! When our State and Fedreral Government make it cozy for the criminals and disregard the elderly, the very people who have contributed all of their lives, there is something wrong with the "system." Our government is indirectly promoting criminal behavior in this country with these type of prison conditions. All prisons should have NO television, just basic food to get by, and
no entertainment. It's jail people! It's not suppose to be cozy and comfortable. It's J-A-I-L....you know....JAIL!
Â
Monroe has the reputation of being the "nice, luxurious" prison.

He doesn't know math.
@komosux he also doesn't know calendar.
he must have found out Obama got re-elected and the economy was still getting worse.Â
@Maynard G Krebbs I feel sorry for people like you. I would venture to ask you how that would affect Musto, but I am certain you could not answer this. You see, prisoners do not pay rent, buy groceries, pay for insurance, utilities, gasoline, mortgage, or car payments. Therefore, a poor economy would have no impact whatsoever on any prisoners.
Your life is dull, boring, and useless.
@Maynard G Krebbs It's time to admit you backed a loser and move on.
Seriously??? This story is about an inmate that was recaptured...no need to start the Obama worship again. Please don't even go there...
@Maynard G Krebbs If you continue beating that dead horse, it will eventually disintegrate, but it will never stand up and let you ride it into glory.
As I've said in other posts, this guy is an idiot. Period.
I am glad he was caught. There seems to be no reason to screw up your life worse, when you've been given the privileges associated w/ good behavior and had so little time left.Â
@takncarabizniz There was either just a really tempting opportunity, or an actual compelling reason. Could have been anything- a sick relative, a threat from inside the prison, who knows?
@two loons  @takncarabizniz I don't know much about minimum-security prisons, but I get the sense he's just an impulsive individual with a less-than-stellar mental aptitude... or perhaps he woke up and realized he forgot to turn off the iron at home---nah!
Possible death threats in Monroe?
well... he's screwed himself now

Not everyone is cut out of prison. It doesn't make sense, he had a few months left in prison and he only hurt himself more by doing this :/Â
I feel sorry for him. He must've snapped.Â
