Everett woman rescued from mountains after medical emergency

GRANITE FALLS, Wash. - A 50-year-old Everett woman was rescued by helicopter Saturday from a remote lake off the Mountain Loop Highway after she suffered a medical emergency.

Search and rescue teams responded to the scene, east of Granite Falls, after receiving an alert from a beacon at about 7:45 a.m. Saturday, said Lt. R. C. Rochon of the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.

Rescuers confirmed the alert and learned that the woman was suffering a diabetic emergency while at Island Lake.

With the coordinates provided by the emergency beacon, a SnoHawk 10 helicopter crew was able to locate the victim quickly on a small island in Island Lake.

The woman was hoisted aboard the chopper and taken to the Verlot ranger station, where she received additional treatment and transport to a local hospital by medics.

At last report, the woman was in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.
