Father accused of choking kids who wouldn't go to bed
TACOMA, Wash. -- A father has been arrested for allegedly choking his 9- and 10-year-old sons when they wouldn't go to bed.
Tacoma police were called to an apartment for a disturbance early Tuesday morning in the 300 block of E. Wright Ave., said spokeswoman Loretta Cool.
As officers were approaching the apartment, they could hear people yelling and physically fighting from inside an apartment, Cool said. The front door was open and when officers arrived, they could see three adult men -- two men trying to hold off the other man.
Officers ordered the men to stop, but one man became verbally abusive toward the officers, then charged at one officer with his fists raised. The officer used a Taser to subdue the man and take him into custody, Cool said.
Afterward, officers could see into a back bedroom that the man's two sons had been injured. Investigators said they later determined the man had been in the front room with his two adult brothers and expected his sons to be asleep.
"When he went to check on kids and they were awake in back bedroom, he became very angry because they weren't sleeping yet," Cool said. "He choked both kids."
Cool said the 10-year-old tried to stop his dad from choking his younger brother but couldn't. One of the kids' uncles then came into the room and pulled the father off the 9-year-old.
Two other young girls and an infant were also in the home at the time of the incident. All were taken to Mary Bridge Hospital for treatment then placed with Child Protective Services as the mother was out of town, Cool said.
Cool noted the kids had signs of neglect and previous injuries but that investigation is still ongoing.
The boys' father was booked into jail for investigation of aggravated assault and resisting arrest.

Why were all the children taken to the hospital for treatment? This is one reason insurance costs so much! Frivolous Dr visits!
There are other much better ways to get your kids to go to bed- when my 2 decide they don't want to go to bed I tell them ok but to stay up you have to do _____ (fill in a chore they hate), they are usually asleep within minutes (or pretending to be lol), on weekends I let them stay up as late as they want as long as they aren't fighting or being a pain in the rump.Â
Why are so many people who shouldn't have children having them? Good grief people, don't you know when you have sex, there is strong possiblity you will have a child. If you cannot make good decisions now, or support yourself or have anger issues, don't have kids. They don't need your issues foisted upon them.
Â
Idiot, in need of something, not sure what.
I guess that's one way to get them to sleep. Maybe dad should do a bit of growing up before they let him out of jail.
What the hell is wrong with people?!?!Â
Â
Where was the mother?
Â
Â
@Seattleite as the mother was out of town, Cool said.
Be sure and blame the teachers when these kids can't pass state tests.Â
Can't wait till Momma gets home and hears about the fun-fest dad was having at the house with the kids. Have to agree with Half-Baked's comment.
As Sam Kinison would say "I don't agree with choking kids who won't go to bed, but I understand it thought!!!"
If that's how he copes with 9yo's wait until they are teenagers.
Fatherhood isn't for everyone. Â Hopefully, this guy's opportunity has come to an end.
That'll teach em.
They won't be pulling that stunt again.
Lets hope it is the last time for Daddy Dearest also.
Â
At least the uncles were there to help somewhat protect the kids.
We wonder why there are so many people with mental illness ---- here is one reason..Child abuse, child neglect, etc.
@Half-Baked and you don't think the father was abused? It's all a vicious circle.
Oh man, I hope that dumbass father gets the same treatment while in jail!
 @Zoso He probably did...
The saying I brought you into this world, I can take you out, is just a myth we tell our kids. Stop trying to take it literally. I wonder if the mom will get her kids back, once she is back. This has to be scary for the kids, thank heavens there was someone there to stop him.Â
Did he learn his parenting from Homer Simpson? ! Â Unacceptable - hope he never gets those kids back - sounds like an out of control jerk.
