Nearly 4,500 Susan Powell photos found on father-in-law's computer

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Thousands of images seized from the home of Susan Powell's father-in-law show the missing Utah mother as she walks in public and sits in her car - apparently unaware that someone is taking her picture.
The photos - some of which are sexually suggestive - were obtained under public records laws Thursday by The Associated Press, three years after Powell went missing.
Authorities uncovered the files while serving a search warrant last year at the home where her husband, Josh Powell, and father-in-law, Steve Powell, were living. Josh Powell killed himself and the couple's two young children earlier this year.
Some of the images seized during the search, including those of bathing young girls who lived next door to Steve Powell, were used earlier this year to convict him of voyeurism charges.
Other photos show a variety of women, apparently unaware that a camera is focused on them, as they walk along sidewalks, at the park or into the mall.
Steve Powell was not charged with any crimes related to images of Susan Powell, but the files show she was often the focus of his lens. In a folder labeled with her initials, SMP, there are images of her walking through parking lots or sitting in her car. It appears the photographer is taking the pictures from another vehicle.
Some images zoom closely to Susan Powell's crotch or her backside, including a set of photos taken through blinds as she's bending over and doing laundry. None of the pictures, which were found on a disc in Steve Powell's bedroom, show her naked.
The folder dedicated to Susan Powell contains nearly 4,500 images.
In journals that authorities have also made public, Powell describes himself as a "voyeur" and Susan as an "exhibitionist." He talks about using a mirror to spy on her under the bathroom door, and he writes about taking sexual pleasure in looking at images of Susan Powell that he kept on his computer.
Powell talks in his journals about taking lots of video of Susan during a trip to Silver Falls in 2009, and a folder of images from the trip shows only photos of her backside as she's walking.
In one entry, dated a few months before Susan Powell disappeared, Steve Powell wrote that he had just woken up "from a most pleasant dream about Susan." He described a sexually charged dream in which Susan asked him, "'Do you think I would make a good wife for you?'"
Anne Bremner, an attorney who represents Susan Powell's parents, said the images support the family's assertion that Steve Powell had a concerning attraction for his daughter-in-law.
"When you look at those pictures, it's clearly surreptitious. It's clearly obsessive," Bremner said. The family believes Steve Powell knows something about Susan Powell's disappearance, and authorities have described him as uncooperative.
Mark Quigley, an attorney who represented Steve Powell in the voyeurism case, did not return a call seeking comment. Powell is in prison, serving a sentence of more than two years.
Susan Powell disappeared in Utah in December 2009. Records have shown that Utah investigators handling the case focused their attention primarily on her husband.

OMG KOMO really .. this had to be printed the day after beautiful memorial to those children..? And an ounce of peace maybe just one of the family felt????????????? Your timing is amazing...............
 @DISPATCH911 I am appalled as well, because when this story first came out, these pictures were not up. Now it feels like she is being exploited by both Powell and KOMO (and whomever shows them). She had no knowledge of these; why show them? Just my opinion...
Why would anyone except this very sad case to be solved it was mishandled from the beginning due to incompetent police work..
Tell me he doesn't know where her body is. This guy is a beyond sick. Someone needs to take a baseball bat to him until he talks.
@DDG We need Jack Bauer, he gets the work done without wasting time.
What a freak show this person is
Like many of you, I'm convinced Mr. Sr. Powell at least knows what happened to Susan. But if he "loved" her as much as he thought he did, why would he help his son kill her or hide her body?
@anon4444 Steve wants it, and Susan said "NO". Steve forced, and Susan defended herself...fill in the blank for the rest of the story.
The 5th amendment grants the us right to avoid incriminating ourselves. This amendment was created to put the burden of proof on the accuser. This was also designed when evidence outweighed everything else because governments, etc. could abuse and torture whatever they wanted out of the accused. Well, now a woman is missing, two small children are dead, and this sicko remains. In two years, he gets out of custody to continue his perverted ways, perhaps under an assumed name elsewhere. It's time the 5th amendment was amended to fit the 21st Century. Sure we have DNA matching, but we also have chemicals that can induce someone to tell the truth whether they want to or not. I believe Josh Powell killed Susan (the kids said they went on a trip and mommy was in the trunk). I also think Josh Powell put Susan in some cave somewhere (the kids said mommy and daddy went inside but mommy didn't come back). I think Josh Powell killed his children for two reasons (besides the obvious insanity of it). That the kids were getting old enough to repeat what really happened but also he would rather see them dead than raised by the parents of the woman he had killed. So, there we are, we have a family of suspicion, who is trying to reverse public opinion by stating the police had ample opportunity to plant the pictures. But the argument also holds true, that if all this information was there for the public, that Steve Powell also had access to the floor plans of people's houses and how to optimize his photo opportunities. I say, we pump this guy full of truth drugs and pull it out of him whether he likes it or not. Let his lawyer be present so only pertinent questions are asked, but do it!
 @Joy Johnson I have a better idea. Since KOMO is obsessed with Steven Powell's obsession with Susan Powell, I propose that we demand that KOMO publish all those images of Susan Powell so we can all share in this obsession and indulge the sexual angle of this story that KOMO obviously want us to indulge.
Â
It couldn't be any more outrageous than some harebrained scheme to utterly abrogate the Constitution and torture Steven Powell by drugging him against his will, so why not?
 @wysoumible Drugging him against his will? Against his will? You mean like when he took all those photos of Susan without her knowledge (isn't that against her will?). You mean when he was a confidant of his own treacherous son yet refuses to help clear up Susan's disappearance (a disappearance against her will?). God only knows what else this man has done or been a party to. Using truth drugs does not do permanent damage to the recipient. Murder is permanent. He may even remember things under the assistance of these drugs that he's blocked out or forgotten. What would it hurt? He's already in prison. If he didn't kill Susan outright himself, what's to fear?
 @wysoumible  @Joy Johnson I have a better idea than that even. How about you take your dislike of KOMO's ways and go on your own way. CYA! (not)
Poor Susan Powell got sucked into a nest of nut cases it seems and ended up being killed along with her sons. Too bad there is not test, tool or any other way to detect when a person you might be interested in might be a latent bomb with a short fuse. I feel so sorry for her and her kids.
Words to describe Steven Powell would not be suitable for print.Â
Susan's parents and family deserve closure and bring her home so that she can be laid to rest with her precious boys.
Ick! This guy is so creepy.
There is virtually zero chance that Josh did not kill her. What I suspect is that Josh picked up her body in the rental car, drove her to a point where he met his father, turned the body over to Steven, and drove back home. It is very hard to actually make a human body completely disappear. I hope that her remains turn up in the near future. If they are located outside the radius confined by the mileage Josh put on that car, it is a 100% possibility Steven transported and hid her body. Look to places Josh went rock hunting, especially if he was with his father AND if they are outside the radius indicated by the odometer on the rental car. If possible track Stevens return trip as it may have been slightly different from his outbound route. I donât believe in coincidence, and I do not believe it is coincidental that Steven took time off at that time. It would be good to be able to prove he was an accessory, which I firmly believe he was.       Â
 @oldster70 Good analysis...
Now why does Steven Powell remind be so much of Warren Jeffs...
Wanna see how far the apples fall from the Powell tree? Check out the "West Valley and Pierce County Malfeasance" website run by the lovely and talented Miss Alina Powell. Here's a sneak peek,
Â
"All the information needed to fabricate photos of the neighbor girls was publicly available through various sources. The Powells live in a "cookie-cutter neighborhood"; the entire neighborhood was developed by Quadrant Homes based on just a handful of floor plans. Some of the residents who bought houses when the neighborhood was developed in 2004 still have copies of those floor plans, and they are also available through Quadrant customer service. It is possible to match up these floor plans with other services such as Google Maps to show lines of sight or other information about the layout of the neighborhood, as in this example. Also, information as to the owners of all the houses in the neighborhood is available in the public record, and names of present and past tenants, including the individuals in question in this case, can be found on public websites. Photographs are available on social networking sites, driver's licenses, school yearbooks, and other sources accessible to police. In other words, the police had available to them all the information necessary to falsify photographs of the neighbor girls."

@thatsjarrod WOW... talk about sick...
Powell. YOU SICK PERV!
RIP Susan, you deserved better!!
Too bad a mob just don't arrange for this shady pervert to meet his son in hell. Think its pretty obvious now what happened to her, or its looking like it. Please don't post his or his spawns pic on the this website, spitting at my screen would do neither of these murderers and freaks any justice
 @Nothingbutnet It's not too late. He'll get out..someday.Â
Feel so bad for her parents having to hear this now. They have been through so much already. Hopefully it is somehow relevant in solving the case.
Poor Susan was surrounded by creeps and mentally unstable men.
Nurse,scalpel please.And remove penis and testicles.Go ahead nurse,superglue uh him up...........

 @KFS  @grog Speaking of sick people....
This case only seem to get creepier and creepier.
Â
Â
One sick little puppy. Fire up the woodchipper.
@Blindman I gotta agree that he's sick, but I also gotta say, the woodchipper idea is a little sick too.
 @katiemcc  @Blindman Woodchippers are used for good.....here is a great scene from Fargo showing how helpful a woodchipper can be. :)

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he is really the one who killed her.
 @Willow I've LONG thought that he was the one that killed her and coerced Josh into hiding or helping hide the body etc. I think he had a critical psychological hold over Josh and remains to have over some of his remaining family.
Â
The only good thing out of this is that it's very unlikely he can hurt Susan and certainly he can't hurt her kids anymore.
 @Willow I am starting to believe that may actually be the case.Â
@Petwlkr @Willow I have very little doubt that he was certainly involved, whether he did the actual killing or just helped (before, during or after, or all 3.)
Well - all I can say in Steve's (you're one of my favorite singers, by the way....) favor is, hey - at least it wasn't 5,000 - that would've been disgusting.
After all this, they better charge him with that and give him a damn well better sentence than 2 years! The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that bastard knows something about her and he needs to give it up! Give me 5 minutes with him, I would love to personally knock those images out of his mind and hopefully whatever he may know about her disappearance! I am so disgusted with this guy, and I can't really say that about too many people!
 @Zoso Keyboard commandos don't impress anyone. Odds are, if faced by Powell, you'd probably pee on yourself.
 @NaviDog Really? I wasn't aware this "keyboard commando" as you put it was trying to impress anyone. Maybe I'm just being honest.
And why hasn't this monster been charged yet for murder? What is taking so long?Â
 @HallandOates Because I believe there needs to be a key thing called evidence to charge him with a crime of the sort, which I don't seem to recall hearing anything about.
 @HallandOates Because there's no evidence?
 @jowsuf  @HallandOates ...and that is unfortunate. All of us want there to be evidence, but we will probably never have it...I just wish we had the satisfaction of prison yard satisfaction if/when someone shanks this *#!*#! jugular so he can slowly bleed to death.
@HallandOates Because the belief is STILL that Josh did it. I have always asserted that both father and son were involved in some way, but with the cowardice that Josh Powell used as an excuse for murdering his own children, and taking his own life, means we may never know what really happened.
4500??? HOLY MOLY!
I doubt I've taken 1,000 pictures in my entire life!
Â
The state should start a raffle to pick who gets to sit in the jury box. 1 buck a ticket and we'd be outta debt in no time.
Â
Eeewwww...
 @bobalouie Jury box for what?
In cases like this, torture needs to be utilized. Start with a pare of pliers on the finger nails and work toward the floor. POS like this should make their maker sooner rather than later. There is no doubt he was at least in part behind the murder of his former daughter in law. No doubt!Â
 @HallandOates There is zero evidence that he was involved, let alone "no doubt" as you claim. I'm also happy that you're so willing to throw the Constitution out the windows so easily....
Â
Having said that, Powell is definitely a sicko but you don't seem a whole lot better.
 @NaviDog Saving the taxpayers money would be horrible. A firing squad upon a conviction would do the trick for this POS.Â
 @HallandOates  @NaviDog Not gonna save taxpayers ANY money if his remaining offspring can sue the pants off for unconstitutional practices.
