Fire breaks out at unfinished S. Lake Union building
SEATTLE -- Firefighters made quick work of a Friday evening fire at an unfinished University of Washington building in South Lake Union.

The fire started sometime after 7 p.m. and briefly sent thick, black smoke billowing above. According to Kyle Moore of the Seattle Fire Department, the fire started somewhere on the building's third floor and was likely an electrical fire between a power cable and a temporary elevator.

The unfinished 8-story building, located at 8th Avenue North and Republican Street, will soon be the University of Washington's South Lake Union medical-research hub.

Nobody was inside at the time and nobody was injured.

A fire investigator estimates damage to the building and its contents at $50,000.
