AUBURN, Wash. -- Firefighters spent much of Wednesday night battling a four-alarm fire at an Auburn self storage business.

The fire, located in the 4500 block of Auburn Way North, broke out at about 6:30 p.m., according to the Valley Regional Fire Authority.

At least 14 storage units inside one building burned, and firefighters needed axes and chainsaws to break through the metal walls.

From their nearby backyard, Anthony Ruffin and his daughter watched plumes of smoke billowing from the units.

"People could be losing something that's so valuable, so irreplaceable, that they could end of being heartbroken. That is the sad part about it," Ruffin said.

Tom Buchholz was almost one of those people. He rents a storage unit at the business, but in an area not affected by the fire. He's also the person who spotted the flames and called 911.

"It was coming out and it was going high and looked like it was getting bigger and faster, like, really quick and there was no one there," he said.

Fire crews were able to get the fire contained by late Wednesday, but firefighters will remain on scene throughout the night.

One firefighter was treated for a finger injury, but not other injuries were reported.

There's no word on how the fire started.
