Police: Argument preceded suspicious South Seattle fire

SEATTLE -- What began as an argument between a couple preceded a suspicious South Seattle house fire on Tuesday.
Seattle fire spokesman Kyle Moore said flames broke out in the basement of the home in the 2900 block of S. Austin St. around 2:19 p.m.
Police believe the incident began when a man got into a verbal argument with his girlfriend at the home. The man assaulted his girlfriend, then retreated to a back room where he may have set the blaze, investigators said.
The unidentified man fled the scene and remains at large.
Fire crews had the blaze under control within an hour. One side of the home appeared heavily damaged through the roof, and heavy plumes of smoke were seen pouring out of the building.
Eight people were inside the home when the blaze broke out. No one was injured.
Damage is estimated at $250,000.

Stop the presses! My sources tell me that the suspect used an assault style high capacity lighter. Tell me why does anyone need such a lighter in their homes.
Maybe he was just indoor burning because it was his only source of heat. Maybe we should ban indoor burning....oh they already do when it gets cold around here. Go figure. Ban burn bans. Where is Tim Eyeman when you need him?
I guess the argument was about not enough heat in the house.
 @Alki_Ninja so she started it ?
We should probably blame gun control or legalization of marijuana for this.Â
 @Komo206 You can't pin the blame on marijuana for this one.  If they were smoking the reefer, they'd have been too lazy to fight.
 @Komo206 GWB started the fire
 @Komo206 No doubt it was that assault back room that started the whole thing!!!
 @Komo206 Really? Everyone that has to go off about banning this over and over, has no class. You all need to think of new ways to get your point across because the same thing over and over is just annoying.  Your showing everyone that really wants to ban guns that your all immature and they have class.
 @Komo206 Hahahaha, touche!
