Brazen thief makes off with Federal Way food bank van
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- It's that time of year when local food banks have the highest demand, but a Federal Way food bank is now facing a huge setback.

Officials from the Multi-Service Federal Way Food Bank say one of their vans was parked outside and ready to pick up donations Monday morning when it was stolen.

The vans are used to pick up donations from local grocers, restaurants, Food Lifeline and Northwest Harvest.

The theft comes at a horrible time. The agency helped feed more than 13,000 in the month of November, and volunteers will feed thousands more in December.

Multi-Service Center CEO Robin Corak said the crime is especially disheartening because the thief is likely someone who could have used the food bank.

"It's sad because you tend to think it's somebody who obviously had some needs or some challenges, and that's who we're really here to serve. So to have somebody take the van when they really could have been getting help here is really disheartening," Corak said.

The van is a 2009 Chevrolet Express with license plate number B66231N. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Federal Way police.
