Former UW frat president pleads not guilty to rape charge

SEATTLE -- A former University of Washington fraternity president pleaded not guilty to rape charges Monday morning.
Prosecutors say Edwin De Boer drugged and raped a 22-year-old woman after the two went on a date in Federal Way in November. He is also alleged to have made a partial admission of wrongdoing in a text message to the purported victim, according to Seattlepi.com
According to charging documents, the woman agreed to go out for dinner and drinks with De Boer in November. The pair went to several Tacoma bars; the last thing the woman remembered was a table of beer and appetizers.
She awoke naked and in pain in the bedroom of De Boer’s Federal Way apartment, she later told police. Confused, the woman spoke with De Boer briefly before leaving his apartment.
Shortly thereafter, the woman contacted her sister, who rushed home and ultimately took her to a nearby hospital for a sexual assault examination, a Federal Way detective told the court. The results of that exam were subsequently forwarded to police.
According to charging documents, lab tests showed the woman had ingested a potent sedative that also causes amnesia. Police contend photos taken during the examination support the woman’s claims.
A judge ordered De Boer to remain held on $300,000 bail, rejecting a request from De Boer's attorney for a $50,000 bail and home monitoring.
De Boer faced similar charges for a rape at a UW fraternity in 2009. In that case, he took a plea deal and served 15 days community service.

What a slimeball. Lock him up...
Guy keeps getting slapped on the wrists....he probably enjoys it.
15 days community service on a rape charge? I must be reading that incorrectly. This guy sounds like a serial rapist and should be decapitated.Â
Prison time does nothing for these idiots-nothing at all. It isn't punishment nor is it rehabilitation in any way.Â
I wonder if the plea down the first time was because the Judge or the Prosecutor were frat brothers. i would not be surprised.
The alleged victim here should be praised for coming forward right away. There are so many rapes that go unreported for many reasons. This young woman is showing courage and she's now going to go through an ugly process in order to get justice. In the end though, she is probably saving other woman from a similar experience.Â
*other women
Apparently this predator learned nothing his first time through the judicial system. Â 15 days community service for his first rape charge?! Â Un*freaking*believable. Â Throw the BOOK at this db and give him several years behind bars to reflect on how lucky he was to get and then squander a second chance.
No plea bs for this pond scum this time. He needs to rot in prison.Â
If the evidence stated above is true (which it sounds pretty iron clad), this guy is a repeat rapist. I wonder how many other girls he has done this to as well. I hope other women recognize him and come forward.
Bring back the scarlet letter for these losers.Â
"De Boer faced similar charges for a rape at a UW fraternity in 2009. In that case, he took a plea deal and served 15 days community service."
Â
I cannot even believe that is considered punishment. I suppose that kept him from being a sex offender, something a potential date could have looked up before being drugged and raped. I am disgusted.
@Melissa Angevine I was stunned when I read that part too. That sentence was a joke.
I'm not a betting man, but I would bet $100 bucks that he has done this multiple times before getting caught. Most often the victims have no memory of the event so don't know to report it. This man should do serious time.
Getting off with a 15 day community service plea deal, a slap on the wrist, told him what he did was OK so why not continue. Â
But before you blame the judge on the plea deal think about how money has stopped flowing in to governments at all levels. Think about the cutbacks we have demanded. When courts are over crowded and lacking funds to go to trial (trials are hideously expensive) prosecutors feel they have little choice but to play "let's make a deal" with the perps. Â
And when they do that everyone loses. I engenders disrespect for the system. No wonder people want to hold onto their guns. There is no confidence that criminals will ever see the inside of a jail cell, much less spend serious time there. And of course, it tells the crooks that there is little likelihood of any real consequences for their actions. Laws are only as good as their enforcement. Which, if this case is any example, means we are in deep doo doo!
This sexual predator should hook up with that crazy acid attack woman and write a book together.
Prison this time. Don't let this skank walk away again.
Remember that name. He is already exibiting a pattern. Who knows if there are others who have not come forward.
Seriously??!?! 15 day community service for a rape as a plea deal?? WTF!!
We need new laws that Judges and prosecutors who fail to properly execute thier duties in making sure that predators (sexual and otherwise) are locked up for the safety of the public should be charged along with the suspects that they have allowed continued access to the public.
You are assuming a failure on the first case. That outcome might have been a huge win. It put something on his record in a case that might not have passed a jury's sniff test.
Â
Prosecuting sex crimes cases can be very challenging. Sometimes, it is hard to prove w/o a he said/she said argument that does not stand up to rigorous thought.
@NBA_Is_Useless  No, his first case was an absolute failure of the judicial system. The article about this when he was arrested suggests that his previous case may not even be able to told to a jury in this case.
Looks like Jerramy Stevens has a runnin' buddy.
"Hey! You can't tell me 'no'! I'm the president of my fraternity! NOBODY tells me 'no'!"
But you'll never hear the current Congress get all worked up about this "entitlement"!
