Gas prices jump 17 cents in a week

BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP) - The AAA auto club reports the average price of a gallon of gasoline in Washington is $3.87.
That's up 17 cents in a week and 28 cents in a month. It's 17 cents higher than the national average.
Some metro prices from the AAA's Monday survey:
Bellingham $4.01, Bremerton $3.87, Seattle-Bellevue-Everett $3.90, Tacoma $3.90, Olympia $3.89, Vancouver $3.85, Yakima $3.79, Tri-Cities $3.78, Spokane $3.68.
Prices at the pump in the U.S. jumped as oil prices rose to near $94 a barrel Monday due in part to increased concerns about the possible escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran.
By early afternoon in Europe, benchmark crude for September delivery was up 80 cents at $93.67 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell 49 cents to end at $92.87 on Friday.

It is all about supply, demand, and most importantly, SPECULATION of that supply and demand
Use less gas...Demand goes down...Prices will follow...That is the only way to control prices.

RIDE A BICYCLE!!!
Let me guess it has to do with that oil tanker collision with that US Destroyer in the Straight....?... I swear if someone farts over there our prices go up!
End the subsidies to the petroleum corporations now!!!! Â Then tax the hell out of them!!Â
@HallandOates And the petroleum companies will simply pass those additional costs on to the end consumer so what have you accomplished?
@HallandOates Yes they will but if they try and pass too much of it guess what even the government will have a stiff word to be had with them! ... if they want to do subsidies they should be conditional on ALL of these agencies spending 50% of ALL PROFIT before bonus's on renewable energy research!
Thanks a lot, Mr. Obama....oh wait, we're only allowed to blame the president for high gas prices if it's Bush. When Obama is in office, gas prices are completely out of his control.
@glamdring2012 THE PRESIDENTS DO NOT CONTROLL GAS PRICES! Bush did not controll gas prices. Oil refinerys catch fire-gas goes up. OPEC controll the price of oil.
Â
Also, you are sooooo smart, if the president could controll gas pricing, shouldn't he have down to about $2 a gallon this close to election?
You want lower gas pricing, have the government go into the oil business and drill US oil dedicated only for US customers. But that would be socialism, I don't think big oil will go for that.
@snoopy84 "PRESIDENTS DO NOT CONTROL GAS PRICES"
Â
So why did the left blame Bush for high gas prices so much when he was in office? Please enlighten me.

@Mr. Flibble So you are saying that liberals were ignorant and stupid to believe that Bush had control over the gas prices? Gotcha.
@glamdring2012 For the exact same reason the GOP and Tea Baggers are blaming Obama now, They know that ignorant and stupid people like you will listen to them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzEnKdBAb_o
Nor the Republicans.
@glamdring2012 What, did Mr. Obama set fire to the refinery?
These are the same excuses they have been using for the past 40 years. Nothing new or truthful here.

What about all of the utility vehicles? When the phone company or the power company has to come to your home do you want to pay 50% more for their services to accommodate these high gas prices. It doesn't matter what you drive the price of gas is going to affect everything you buy or use sooner or later.
@Jatok The last time the "phone company" came to my house was in the 1980s and he drove an ELECTRIC truck. Yep, an electric truck. It was part of a pilot program sponsored by the US government. The technician actually liked the truck but eventually the program came to an end and GTE got rid of them.
@Jatok Well of course it is. ALL costs of doing business are eventually passed on to the end consumer.
I don't really think you got the point I was trying to make. The remark was about people who drive larger vehicles and even if you got all of them off the road you still can't illiminate all of the large vehicles that are used for every day commerce, the cost of their fuel is passed on to the consumer.
Electricity has to be generated somehow and that cost is also passed on to you.

That's not enough "bright" to light a 25 watt light bulb.
@n9078jk4 what is that, a bicycke? I have two bikes, but I think for many people (especially in Seattle), a bicycle as a primary mode of transportation is not practical.
So, I ride my motorcycle when I can, and leave my Tacoma parked at home when i do not need to drive it. I also ride the bus when I can.

@n9078jk4 Yeah? And none of them had to get an EIS either, so thereyago.
Well, tell you what, ...you hustle your cute little bike over here and bring your trailer...we will load up my tools and supplies and you can pedal them over to my jobsite.
Â
When you are done with that one, I'll send you off for the AC unit that needs installed.
You know this is getting pretty darn stupid folks!! Why are buying into their crap>? How is it that they call the shots and we should all know they're laughing the as#$(*)0-sses off at us every time!! Why are we not boycotting their gas and making a statement??? We should win, we should get up off our butts and call the shots!
Â
@reelin21 So what is topping YOU from starting a refinery and putting all those "corrupt" big oil companies out of business?
I demand that the Junior Senator from Washington hold hearings immediately to get to the bottom of Big Oil and their ties to the current administration!
Â
Obama and his Big Oil buddies have to go!
Â
(psst, Sid... it's Bush's fault, didn't you get the memo?)
Â
Oh...never mind...
@Sid Vishess
YEAH!It's Obama's fault there's turmoil on the Middle East
It's Obama's fault there's a drought in the Mid West casing corn prices to sky rocket. It's Obama's fault there was an Oil Refinery fire in California a couple weeks ago. It's Obama's fault the GOP controlled Congress refuse to help him get the economy back on track. It's Obama's fault that speculators and the market set oil prices. It's Obama's fault that all of the Middle East oil nations cut production in half to drive up oil prices
Yep, it's all Obama's fault.Oh Hey, just think Sid, with Obamacare, you can get a brain now.... oh yeah, you don't have a brain to think.
@Mr. Flibble Hmmm, so you say the President has little to do with the price of gas? Of course! That's what you Poorgressives were trying to tell us in '08 and I just DID NOT LISTEN.
Â
My bad...
@Sid Vishess My God you're an idiot. How did you survive childhood?
@Sid Vishess Obama and his big oil buddies? Ha ha ha ha! You got the president confused with GW Bush and Grand Obstructionist Party (GOP)! Too funny Sid!!!!
@HallandOates @Sid Vishess let him believe what he wants. Everytime he posts anything in these forums it is almost always political and blaming Obama. The guy has the most narrow minded field of view than anyone else on the forums, with the exception of Odramamustgo
Â
@Sid Vishess Angry old man, My experience with energy costs and what I paid to fuel up my vehicle are simply that. That is fascinating, isnt it? I am enamored however with your global energy policies as well. Please, run for office next general election.
@northwestsurfer @Sid Won't be for a while. I wish to absorb your doctoral dissertation on energy costs, price controls, demand elasticity and market conditions in the 1980's.
Â
Fascinating. Simply... fascinating.
Â
Â
Â
Â
@Sid Vishess Nice try old man. I drive a truck, and a motorcycle, and I definitely dont work at a bike shop.
Dont forget your geritol and cialis before you go to bed
@northwestsurfer @Sid @Sid @HallandOates No, that was the first time I believe. It would not be good etiquette to use that more than once. Hey, I don't give a rat's whether anyone agrees with me. Just keep on working at the bicycle shop there so you can pay for my Social Security.
@Sid Vishess @Sid @HallandOates what, that is like the 3rd time now you have called me spiccoli? It was clever the first time.
I yawned because you attemtped to cite something from Fox News, hoping I might agree with you.
@northwestsurfer@Sid@HallandOates
Yawn?Just like you slept through your Economics and History classes, eh Spiccoli?
Â
Â
@Sid Vishess @HallandOates @Sid yawn...
@northwestsurfer @HallandOates @Sid Nah, I blame the Dem's, too. And Big Spending Republicans. And the electorate that has no idea of history. Past 2001.
Â
And hey, I didn't blame that airline that had a bikini contest on Obama, now did I... hmmm?
Whew! The Senate finally passed the budget! I was worried about that... Thanks D's!@HallandOates
Or Grand Oil Party (GOP)
@Sid Vishess yeah, right its Obama's fault. Prices were always low and supply was always plentiful before obama was elected. I'm kicking myself for having voted for him.
@northwestsurfer @Sid So... if you substitute "Bush" for "Obama" in your reply...
Â
@Sid Vishess @Sid haha, you can say whatever you want, Holmes. Just because you are old and grumpy doesnt mean you have to project it on all of us Gen-X'rs.
@northwestsurfer @Sid @SidÂ
Â
THERE WERE NO PRICE CONTROLS AFTER 1981. Got it?
Â
The low prices were because OPEC drilled themselves into a frenzy.
Â
I posted the link for YOUR edification but apparently you have some sort of synaptic short circuit that does not allow information to be absorbed.
Â
Sonny, I WAITED in those gas lines that were a result of price controls. So did any one over the age of 50. After controls were ended, MAGIC! No waiting in line. No shortages.
@Sid Vishess @Sid You sent me an article that is more than 6 years old? How long did your google search take you to find that?
You must be an 18 year old driver. In the 80s, I recall gas prices being a dollar or less per gallon. In the 90s, when I started driving (I turned 16 in 1993), gas prices were maybe $1.15. Throughout the 90s, gas prices were in the $1.50 range, even crashing to .89 cents per gallon in 1998. Circa the early 2000's, gas prices exceeded $2.00 per gallon and have never retreated from that range, only to increase to more than $5.00 per gallon in 2008.
Â
Actually let me correct myself, in the winter of 2009, prices actually plunged to under $2.00 per gallon, for a few weeks, only to climb once again to present levels. But hey, if all you have is a 6 year old article and that is the best you can do, I have no arguement. I do recall what i have paid in the last twenty years of driving however.
@northwestsurfer @Sid @Sid Price controls on gas in the 1980's and 1990's, ya say? Verrry interesting...
Â
Hey, if you can change history, all things are possible...
Â
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2006/may/15/20060515-122820-6110r/?page=all
Â
I mean, when Reagan ended all price controls in 1981 and finished what Carter (to his credit) had started, the prices came crashing down.Â
Â
But if you want to believe there were price controls in the '80's and '90's, be my guest.
@Sid Vishess @Sid yeah, I remember the paradise of price controls of an earlier time; from the 80s and 90s when prices were relatively stable. Back then, prices rose gradually, as to be expected with inflation. The prices were not volatile as they are now, dollar swings at some times.
Â
I'll pay what they price them at because gas is a commodity, as you may be aware of and I, like you have no choice but to pay them or curtail my driving to a minimal point. This isnt going to the movies, smart guy; I dont have a choice and neither does anyone else. For that matter, perhaps the government should do what they are expected to do and control the price volatility of gas prices
@northwestsurfer @Sid @Sid Allowed? They should charge whatever you will pay for it. If you don't like it, buy some Energy Sector Index Funds and a six pack and sit back.
Â
Or perhaps you remember the paradise of price controls of an earlier time?
@Sid Vishess @Sid I am not blaming one single president. I blame congress, as a whole for refusing to do anything about energy prices or policy, and for continuing to allow lobbyists to influence politicians so that this kind of price increase is allowed
