Marysville girl made up story about being ditched by bus driver
MARYSVILLE, Wash. -- A 14-year-old special-needs girl who claimed she was ditched by a school bus driver miles from her Marysville school has now admitted she made up the story.
The girl, who has the mental capacity of an 8 year old, told her mother Tuesday night that her story wasn't true.
"I am horrified that she came up with such an elaborate lie," Krista Adams told KOMO News on Wednesday.
The girl claimed that a school bus picked her up at her regular stop in front of her driveway on Friday morning, but was later ordered off the bus when the driver realized she wasn't on the roster.
The girl's mother said her daughter has since admitted she missed the bus and tried to walk to school, but got lost. And when her grandfather found her on the street, "instead of telling the truth came up with this horrible, horrible lie," her mother said.
Her mom apologized for sounding the alarm over the story.
"I'm very sorry but in the end I would stand up for my child again -- I believed her," Adams said. "She had my whole family believing."
Marysville School District spokeswoman Jodi Runyon said the district was pleased to learn that the allegations were false and that the student is safe.
"The district takes student safety seriously and several hours were spent by school district and transportation staff to investigate these allegations," she said.

Well first off i don't know how much she lying or how truth the lie is. this has happen before its not a shocker to me. Secondly she was scared of getting in trouble look she does not really no better.
@umpire There is no reason to NOT believe that she lied. Her mother has accepted that she has lied, so why can't you? Imagine yourself in the school bus driver's shoes and you did absolutely nothing wrong to this little girl. He or she comes to her bus stop, she is not there, perhaps he waits a moment or two, and to keep on schedule has to leave. Next thing he or she knows, there's an allegation they ditched the young lady somewhere! Can you imagine how that would ruin your life??? And even with her coming forward now and admitting it was all lies, there will always be people like you who refuse to believe the school bus driver's story, even though it happened just as he or she said. It is a sad commentary on our world that there are people in it that will lie to keep themselves from getting into trouble, and even sadder commentary that people allow a made-up story like to this to ruin someone's life.
Funny comments. Surely Mom hasn't taken the correct classes (they never do these days). My Mom meter would have gone off in a hearbeat. Capacity of an 8 yr. old and she walks miles from home? BS, then to make up such a lie, BS. This is the cute, innocent, mentally ill little girl that will accuse some teacher or boy of rape and ruin lives. Teach her a hard, swift lesson now.
@Magicalwoman Good points, especially about alleging rape. It happens all the time, and once those allegations are made, you can't "unmake" them - even if the kid later admits to lying. Look at the comment above where someone is still saying "I don't know how much she lying or how truth the lie is", which means she still believes the bus driver did something wrong! Even though the girl has admitting to lying and her own mother accepts that the allegations were false! When allegations like this are made, they ruin lives. You almost need to have a camera recording everything you do in your life, just so you can protect yourself against this kind of conduct.Â
Really? Well I hope she learns an important lesson from this! I'll cut her some slack because she's a special needs student with the capacity of an 8 year old, but that's about it. Guess I'll have to take back what I said about the district. I'm just glad she admitted it and the mother is being honest about it.
In my original comment in the first run article I had stated that I wished the girl made the story up because I couldn't imagine this happening. I hate to say it but I'm glad she made it up because it restores my faith slightly in the people who are entrusted to care for our children. Plus it just didn't sound right from the get go.
@cm257n7 it has happen
Where was mom when the girl was to get on the bus. If I had a special needs child, that acted 8, I would definetely be watching her get on the bus. My daughter is 11. As a parent, one that worries about my kids every second, I make sure there is someone there with her every morning, if it isn't me. Scary stuff....
@Stephanie Isn't that the truth! My children don't even have special needs and I would NEVER leave them alone to catch the bus by themselves! There are too many people who could have seen this young girl trying to walk to school and picked her up and did GOD KNOWS WHAT to her! She and her mother should be thankful that the good Lord had His hands upon this girl to protect her from evil. It's a great lesson to all parents to please watch your kids, even if they are only alone for a minute. Look at Joyce Duggard - her step-father was just 100 feet away from her as she walked to the school bus stop when she was abducted. It can - and has - happened. Please watch and protect your kids.
It's great that the girl is safe and there was no real danger. If I saw my grandaughter on the side of the road and bought her story that a busdriver booted her off the bus, I would have taken her directly to school and gone straight to the attendance office. The girl would have been tardy but certainly not in trouble. I have questions about the grandpa's involvement. One lie leads to another. There's more to this than we're reading here.
It is Amazing how the family was all over the news blaming the bus driver and the school district, but where is their public apology? Clearly, they need some better parenting skills...
@Don Tuten Oh so news stories don't look into facts before publishing a story? you kids never lied don? you never lied don? give me a break anyone can have better parenting skills this has nothing to do with that.
@Don Tuten Did you miss the article up there in your rush to the comments section? I'll quote it for you:

"I am horrified that she came up with such an elaborate lie," Krista Adams told KOMO News on Wednesday. ...
@Seattletono  @Don Tuten That was no apology. She barely has the words "I'm sorry" out of her mouth before she makes sure she adds "but in the end I would stand up for my child again." Not much of an apology. It should be clear from this where the little girl learned how to lie!
@Don Tuten That's because most parents believe their kids are perfect little angels.Â
@Don Tuten I very much agree.
http://marysville.komonews.com/news/814461-special-needs-teen-ditched-miles-school  This is the original post I found and commented.
If you would look at the original post..... I said this entire thing was fishy. Now, was this child left alone to get on the bus? No one was home to see her board? That should be the start of making sure this doesn't happen again..
@2otaku So just cause a story does not add up makes it a lie?
@umpire  @2otaku No, but when a story doesn't add up you should not discount that as a possibility.
@2otaku Yup,the lie didn't get past you, it''s all there on your original post. Good deduction.
Her mental capacity sure doesn't seem to be that of an 8 year old. I suspect she is closer to 14(not meaning her actual age) than her parents think.
The kid was being a kid. I won't go too hard on her. But MOM? Better get a new Teenage Lie Detector!  I recommend the Lie-O-Matic 3000 by Mylon Industries. I just happen to have one for sale at a good price. Hasn't been used in ten years but it's a must for those upcoming teen years. She might have the mind of an 8 year old but she's still gonna have the hormones of a teenager. Oh, God help you :)
@Getov Mylon How is yours better than the one Vandalay Industries is putting out this spring?Â
@MargeGunderson The Mylon model is time tested. Lovingly maintained for future generations. Guaranteed to suss out outlandish stories to explain why the police are showing up on your doorstep or why post-teenage boys mysteriously appear in the shadows after midnight.
@Getov Mylon Yeah, I told some whoppers growing up and mom usually caught on in about a half millisecond. Two things I had to learn the hard way. Don't lie to mom and never, never, ever make dad stop the car when he says "If I have to stop this car there's going to be trouble!" That didn't work out to well.
@MikeCoomer "If I stop this car, you boys will get out and walk home!"
Happened ...ONE time.
That is funny!! THX
@BocaBob No need to thank me, I'm a public servant.
First of all, I am glad the young lady finally told the truth. In MY opinion, having the young lady apologize to the bus drivers would be an appropriate punishment. Now, as for the mom...while I understand she was trusting her daughter, she did make false allegations against the school district and the bus drivers on the news. If parents such as this were charged with making a false report or sued by the schools for slander or libel, whichever fits best, then maybe these parents wouldn't be so fast to run to the news every time.
@JUSTONEPROUDMOM Doesn't that seem a little extreme? I'll agree sounding off right away before learning anymore probably wasn't the best choice she could've made, but she made the choice as a mother to stand up for her daughter on something she believed to be completely wrong, even though she was wrong. Regardless, she realized it was a mistake and felt bad because of it and apoligized for it. I really don't think that's the kind of mistake someone is likely to make again.
@Zoso  @JUSTONEPROUDMOM First of all - it wasn't much of an apology. Second of all - I agree with others on here, there are some things just not adding up here. Don't be so quick to just assume this was all the young girl's idea.
@PatThe Rat Why? You think there must be some kind of conspiracy or something? Sorry, don't think you're gonna find what you're looking for.
@Zoso @JUSTONEPROUDMOM Any parent would back there kids up.
@umpire Yeah, exactly, I'm not disputing that. But sounding the alarm to the point that you get the media involved instantly before the school could really investigate anything was premature.
@umpire  @Zoso  @JUSTONEPROUDMOM You must not watch the news much.
@JUSTONEPROUDMOM I understand what you are saying but making a false report is making a report while knowing you are wrong. As far as the parents knew, a driver kicked their daughter off the bus. All parents should believe their children unless actual facts come out disputing the childs story.
Who saw this one coming? I did.
@Tattooed_Angel No liar you didn't. You blamed it on the bus driver.
@Common Sense You call me a liar? Do you know the definition of liar? It is a person who tells lies. No one told lies here so maybe you should check your vocabulary for a more appropriate word.
@Getov Mylon  @Tattooed_Angel Neither one. We know now that the WMDs were moved to Syria. You liberals don't get out much, do you?
@Tattooed_Angel  @Common The young lady obviously told a lie. And your saying she didn't was another lie. So there's 2 for you. The plural of lie is lies. Therefore, based on the definition you gave, "liar" is appropriate.
@Tattooed_Angel  @Common So... those WMD's?Faulty intelligence or lies?
@Common Sense Did you read my original comment? It stated that is could have possibly been a substitute driver who didn't know the route. I wasn't blaming anyone because technically there was no one to blame. I knew from the start that this story didn't add up but gave the benefit of the doubt.
Just like lot of people that was commenting here was saying! But there where others that called the people that doubted this for idiots! Where are those guys now?
This story made no sense from the beginning.
Why would the mother speak to the press until she found out what really happened?
Why is her eight-year-old/14-year-old waiting for the bus by herself, anyway?
@flashlight Well she was catching the bus at the end of her own driveway. I would guess her mother figured she would be ok for a few minutes right there. She now knows to come back and tell mom she missed the bus. At the same time, my bet is that mom will not trust her to catch it by herself for quite q while.Â

@Budswiser "SUCH A POOR EXAMPLE OF INTELLENGENCE WAS OUR PRESIDENT."
Â
The pitcher winds up, he throws and it's a hanging curve that gets belted DEEP to right field....
No need to yell,
Â
Well if we have no more oil men running this country, I would submit that no more non transparent people either, you want to prove your fit to run whats left of this country then everything comes out on the table before election, tax returns and brith certificates!
Â
I would also like to have the president someone who was least had to have had a normal job for a while in is life so when he/she represents the average person in this country, he/she actually knows what its like to have your paycheck chopped away at year after year.
@Budswiser Looks like a we have one more passenger for the short bus.
Thanks, Brett! My thoughts exactly, and I needed a good laugh tonight!
