Grandmother tackles fleeing Richland man

RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say a 40-year-old woman tackled a man fleeing from police.

The Tri-City Herald reports that Becky Powell, who is a grandmother, tackled a 20-year-old man running from Richland police officers this past Wednesday.

Capt. Mike Cobb says Powell was driving by when she saw the man run away from officers. She told her husband to speed ahead of the fleeing man, and got out of the car to confront him.

Powell says the man tried to stiff-arm her, but she tackled him, pulling down his shorts in the process.

Cobb says the police department appreciated Powell's actions, but cautioned people shouldn't get involved in police matters.

Cobb says the man ran because he had an outstanding warrant.
