Gun owners ask: Where's the ammo?

SEATTLE -- A shortage at gun shops around the state has gun owners asking, where's the ammo? Even gun dealers are having trouble keeping the shelves stocked.
Ammunition manufactures nationwide can't keep up with gun owners who want buy more and more ammunition.
For Sharyn Hinchcliffe, hitting the range to practice her sharp shot is a way of life and a means of protection.
"I was taught to maintain my skill level and that means going 150 to 200 rounds at a time," she said.
That's three boxes of ammunition for her 9 mm hand gun. But lately it's hasn't been easy to find.
Gun dealers across Western Washington report a low supply of ammunition and in some cases, popular ammo such as 9 millimeter, .40 and .45 caliber aren't available.
"There's been a big rush on ammo," said gun shop owner Wade Gaughran.
And there's several reason why. Dealers say more people are buying guns, so more people are buying ammunition.
Also, after the tragic school shooting in Newtown, Conn., gun owners are fearful of potential gun-control legislation, so they're stocking up.
"If they buy more than they need it's just going to make the situation worse," Gaughran said.
And prices right now are 25 to 40 percent higher than they were a year and half ago. Some gun shops even limiting the amount of ammo a customer can buy.
For Hinchcliffe that means practicing her patience.
"You just have to wait, there's really no other way to do it," she said.
But Gaughran says the short supply won't last forever.
"I expect sometime near the end of this year ammo will be relatively easy to get again," he said.
Also, dealers expect prices to go back down as well. What can you do in the mean time? Gaughran suggests don't stockpile ammunition, simply purchase only what you need.

In case someone didn't want to go to the link below, this is the Headline and the first sentence. Pretty much sums it up.
Misstep in gun bill could defeat the effort.
One of the major gun-control efforts in Olympia this session calls for the sheriff to inspect the homes of assault-weapon owners. The billâs backers say that was a mistake.

All the Murray(s) need to go. Open your eyes people!
After making his mark as the most successful gun salesman in history, our President needs to bolster the rest of the domestic economy. All he would have to do is sayÂ
 "Now, let me be clear. The time is now for this Congress to provide comprehensive legislation that will help law enforcement keep track of any domestic manufactured product. Domestically manufactured automobiles in particular need to be address. In 2012 alone, over 32,000 people in America were killed on our own roads and highways. It's time to ban the manufacture of all domestic products before anymore innocent lives are lost to the senseless greed of the American Busniessman."Â
That would spur the rest of the American Economy, not just the Firearms and Ammo side!
Isn't it amazing that nowhere in the article the names Obama and Holder are ever mentioned? This is the same thing that happened after "the chosen one" was elected the first time, but these "reporters" can't make the connection.

@Tacobender50, We saw this earlier today. That's why we've been saying that stockpiling guns and ammo actually does make sense. It pretty much justifies all we've said. They tried to slip this one past the populace. I don't believe for a second that Kline or Murray didn't know this "open your door and let me in" policy was part of the bill. They wanted to back door us and got caught with their pants around their ankles.
@SargeMcC Since this part of the law is unconstitutional, it wouldn't take a high powered lawyer to get it declared as such. Don't those idiots in the legislature understand what "illegal search and seizure" means? I'm not a gun advocate or anti-gun, but I am a person who believes in the rule of law and that starts with the Constitution.
I think after the comments made on the Health Reform bill, and now the comments by Kline and Murray, that we need both state and federal constiutional ammendments that requires that any lawmaker must be throughly familiar and understand and be responsible on what they are voting on, and if they are not they must "opt out:" of the vote and that counts as a no.
No more of this "oh I didn't know that was in there" or "we have to pass it to find out what's in it" BS, what a way to run a country.
"Miss step" my A**
I seem to recall that this state tried to pull this stunt in a ban a couple of decades ago. This was a deliberate attempt to try and slip it in and it got flagged. These guys aren't that stupid.
@SargeMcC Bingo.... Ten ring....
@Tacobender50Â Â I kinda have a feeling this was a "shot heard round the world" kind of event......
I've had several friends posting about this on Facebook. There are ammo shortages all across the US thanks to hoarders. Some of my friends are turning to online sources.
While you were sleeping Inslee and the Lib's were plotting again.
Pass the word.

Maybe you should be more concerned with Senate Bill 5737, which authorizes unwarranted annual inspection of gun owners homes. Â Or more important why the Bills co-sponser Adam Kline, who by the way is now backing away, didn't read a bill that violates the US Constitution so blatantly? Â Perhaps, its time for job less important to the citizens of the State.
@wriddle  Your killin' me..... pointing out the transparent- staggering -stupidity beseeching our cancerous government!
Adam Kline and Ed Murray both need to lose their positions.
@SargeMcC A NO CONFIDENCE VOTE SHOULD BE HELD IMMEDIATELY!!!!! Ha!
@SargeMcC One day soon.... our military will realize the magnitude of the stupidity going on back home..... My hope's they will soon join the ranks of those demanding change in our government... effective immediately. Term limits, no special interest groups or lobbying etc.!
@unky-Munky, But I would say that about each and every one of them. Traitorous scumbags. Betrayors of the Constitution.
I wonder how much of my tax dollar went toward their ammo. Seeing as the government bought enough to shoot every American 4 or 5 times, and .45 ACP ammo going for almost a dollar a round, probably not much, but not everyone pays taxes, so what, about $10?
The government has been buying like the taxpayer has an inexhaustible supply of $$

@contraryjim That's because Obama and Congress seem to think they have money as long as they have an inexhaustible supply of paper to print it on. They are steeling from our children, and they know it, the craven idiots.
Simple question: Â Would people be buying all of these guns and ammo if they trusted their government?
@guyfromPAÂ Probably not. Tyranny has spread quite a lot over the last 10 years. They need to keep their greedy little hands off of the Bill of Rights. There's a reason they are called inalienable rights.
@guyfromPA  That is non sequitur. For one thing guns are excellent investments.
@guyfromPA, How very true.
People that buy way more ammo than they need are selfish, ignorant idiots and are the main factor of the problem. Why do people freak out and overreact any time guns are in the news? I have guns, love guns but do not buy more ammo than I need...all this does is drive up the price and make it near impossible for others to get. Another form of gun control....thanks to all you ammo hogs. PARANOIA WILL DESTROY YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@thanksbush: First: Bush says, "you're welcome". Second: How much is too much? Third: So will naivety.
@thanksbush Ammo is like money. You may or may not need as much as the next guy, you don't need it all the time, and you can never really have too much.
@RN1Â Â
I agree with what you all say but I'm pissed that I cannot find any ammo. There are many people in the same situations as myself. It's like rich/poor and money...10% of the people have 90% of the ammo in the US.
@thanksbush, Sorry about your predicament. Most of us that have ammo started years ago to accumulate our supplies. It didn't happen overnight.
@thanksbush If people don't have the minimum amount of ammo that they need on hand, then it just means that they weren't prepared. The warnings from the government agencies have always been around. Store food, water, ammo, guns, first aid, other means to survive. Wait until the next major earthquake, Tsunami, or volcano eruption. Are we going to expect to have grocery stores stocked up with food and water? Hardware stores with generators, home repair supplies, and plywood boards? Look at what happened during Katrina. Look at what's happening now with ammo and the first steps in gun control (confiscation). Obama siaid he wasn't going to take away our guns. Now he's started the process. Look what happened in New York.
@thanksbush sad.... You didn't get the memo....  Buy ammo..... Buy Firearms...... Stock up on provisions.... Become self reliant....
@Funky-Munky @thanksbush Â
Cant buy it if it aint there!
@thanksbush  Most of us legal law abiding responsible gun owners already have enough to last from here on out....

@thanksbush Guilty as charged. The "more ammo than you need" is the hard part. Sometimes too much is not enough.
This news article failed to mention the millions of round of ammunition that the federal government is buying!!!
@RightyTighty Have proof of that? Have a story from a reputable source?
@206_Assaulter, How many articles do you want?

@OrcasThunder:Â How about you provide one that contradicts those already provided?
@Goodwin, Don't worry too much about Orcas. When he sees the light he backs off. He's not all that bad, just doesn't always like the truth. Besides we need balance, he's the ying to our yang.
@OrcasThunder  Just curious Orcas, you accept and defend every word out of Obama's mouth and question and deny any words the do not support his policies and statements. Is it your bias?
@Orcas Thunder, you mean one, like from the left? It's kind of hard for DHS to refute.

@SargeMcC How about one that isn't biased?
What is everyone arming themselves for? Alien invasion or Big Bad Obama come to your houses and take your bullets? Canada might also invade us, not to mention Mexico
@Lrry*x*KÂ Seriously? were you born that stupid or do you have to work at it? Â I agree with you SargeMcC
@maebe1955 Simple misquoted joke from a simple mind,Â
@Lrry*x*K, Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Tell ya' what; when the proverbial stuff hits the fan don't come knocking on my door for help. I'll group with like minded survivors, but the sheep have become a burden and that point and are only cannon foder.
@SargeMcC So how much longer do you expect to live than the unarmed "sheep" if the stuff hits the fan? Real question is do you really want to live longer?
@Lrry*x*KÂ Or the 40,000 some Iranian operatives in Central and South America.
@Lrry*x*K  It's the friggin' governments fault......  All that Zombie Invasion.... BS! Has pushed us over the edge.....
