Car fleeing shooting scene hits school bus in Puyallup

PUYALLUP, Wash. -- A car fleeing a shooting scene hit a school bus carrying elementary school children on Tuesday.
The incident occurred near 94th Avenue East and 136th Street East around 3:30 p.m.
Pierce County Det. Ed Troyer said the incident began seven blocks away at 136th and Median, where a silver car was involved in a shooting. The car then fled the scene, and while speeding off, struck the bumper of the school bus.
No one was injured in the crash. Approximately 20 children were aboard the bus at the time.
Police have arrested a 32-year-old man suspected in the incident, and were questioning him.
Investigators originally believed the bus had been struck by gunfire at least once, but later corrected their report.

I am in the middle of Afghanistan and the school gave my husband very little information. That day he was freaking out when the kids didnt get home. The school didn't have the common courtesy to call, Â but sent a a email message about it. They should have had more respect. Being over here in Afghanistan my kids are dealing with enough they do not need the school lying to us about what really happen. The school told a story that the bus was the one that hit someone. This whole thing is a mess and I am thinking of pulling my kids out of that school because of this mess. My kids do not need the extra stress they are dealing with enough with me being gone. As well my kids came home and said they were never checked out while the school claims they were I am going to believe my kids that they weren't checked out. This whole thing is a lot for a 5 year old and a 7 year old to deal with especially when they are also dealing with having a parent deployed.Â
ABC national news was so eager to report a gun story involving kids that they quickly announced that a school bus in Puyallup Washington was shot at and then the bus crashed. I next heard the real story from local KOMO radio reporters, and then waited for the updated correction to the story from ABC. Good thing I wasn't holding my breath because that never happened.
See, I told you it was too complicated to drive, shoot, and hold your pants up.
Every damn day there are stories like these. Time for vigilante justice. We need to take our streets back.Â
know if someone was carrying a gun they could have had a good old fasion gun fight!
I'm hearing this was caused by road rage. Absolutely pathetic!
"Car fleeing..." Fortunately the car's driver was not involved.Â
Imagine that, another thug who didn't turn in his gun at the buyback! Great job!!
Now that they revised the story reading it makes MUCH more sense at least. So, the CAR was involved in the shooting, THEN ran into the bus, CAUSING the crash. OK, now my mind can picture it.
@Thunder You know how those cars are:  always packin heat, ready to pull the trigger, then go collide with something.  They're sneaky ones, I tell ya!  :-)
This is why shootings are so dangerous. They cause traffic accidents with children.
@Komo Dragon By that logic, cars are even more dangerous.  Time for strict car control laws.
@Tim Lane  @Komo Dragon that's a very original fresh argument.
Â
did you come up with that all by yourself?
 @sunnysandiego  @Tim Lane  @Komo Dragon I'm pretty sure he's being sarcastic.
Both the "Liberals" and the so-called "Gun Nuts" need to step back and stop the mud slinging. What the heck is wrong with you people. This is one reason why this country is soooo screwed up. All this bickering and name calling, but no rational. I know some is meant as sarcasm, but does it really do any good?? Geezzzz

@sunnysandiego Sunny Sunny Sunny, better invest in some lumber before you start casting those stones!
Yes, thugs are so important that Bruce Harrell and the like seem to want to bend over backwards on their behalf but I still believe it is a small percentage of people who are causing the violence. Why won't our representatives and judges get them off the street and keep them off? Another fine moment brought to you by thugs.Â
So the bus driver hears something that sounds like gun fire and crashes?
@Nitroxman The car hit the bus. But I don't think they mentioned that in the original story, if I recall correctly.
@lovestolearn  @Nitroxman Nope, they did not. Reading it now it's definitely different than the original.
Way to go KOMO. Try getting the fscts strait before you work the public into a lather with another gun story.
And, of course, the Rad Right and La Pierre will tell you that this wouldn't have happened if all of the kids on the bus were armed with assault rifles .... right? Doesn't make any sense? Yeah, I agree but try and tell the nuts who measure their maturity in caliber.
'
@Ben Ezzell I usually measure my nuts in gauge not caliber.
Â
Oh I misread what you posted. My bad!
@Ben Ezzell Wow, "maturity in caliber" is actually kind of funny like the people who drive sports cars, have you ever owned one?
Â
Never once, never, did the "Rad Right and La Pierre" advocate arming any child with any weapon. But, because your limited mind can only make up, actually for most liberals; repeat some incorrect drivel your heard from one of your other liberal heroes, you are left to grow as a mushroom. Some mushrooms grow very well but I would not say that mushrooms have much intelligence. You should try to get out from under the liberal anti gun canopy to see the real world.
Â
Maybe you can provide a link or reference to where "Rad Right and La Pierre" has advocated arming children?Â
@Ben Ezzell I agree guns are too accessible based on my own buying experience, but the way you blame the "gun nuts" for the criminals action is non sense. Plenty of illegal immigrant drive drunk and kills innocent people, are you going to blame all the legal law abiding driver for their obssession of personal transportation? I only have 2 guns, so I am far from being a "gun nuts", let me just put that out there first before you hypersensative sensationalist jump the gun and start labeling everyone that disagrees with you.
@Ben Ezzell How about noting that KOMO has changed this story a few times.  The shots were not fired at the bus, or anywhere NEAR the bus.  94th is a good half mile from Meridian.  This was just a matter of KOMO enjoying fanning the flames or maybe getting on the national newswire.  Poor, inflated, incorrect reporting.
Let's start with the bus drivers first. They should obviously be armed. Then we can talk about the kids. Maybe start them off with handguns just to be safe.Â
My child was on the bus, the kids where pretty scared but are all ok mine smacked her face on the seat infront of her, came off the bus crying and scared but will be ok. school really didnt tell us anything about what happened and still havnt recieved a call from the school which i am very concerned about i only knew because the bus was late and couldnt get threw to the school and back tracked the bus route to find the bus surounded by police and when tried to get to the bus was not let near it told to go to the school and wait.
Â
@strawberris When I rode a school bus the top of the seat back had a metal tube so if your face smacked it you'd have blood everywhere.
@strawberris I just called home... My kid went to Ballou just last year. I'm glad your child is OK.Â
@strawberris In no way trying to defend the school district, but if this media report has any indication of the general knowledge of what happened, it would appear that there has been a lot of confusion regarding the event. But at the very least a call to all the kids that are scheduled on that route saying there has been an accident and no further information is available?
@strawberris ADD: I hope your daughter is OK.
@strawberris OMG!!! that is so scary not knowing what is going on with your childs bus. I hope she will be ok.
In such a hurry to report "gun crimes. . ." Â Aren't there enough REAL ones KOMO??? Â Did you consider the reaction of the PARENTS of the children who were on that bus who might not have seen the string of modifications to the story? Â Shame on you.
@Nanamamabjm so now your gun loving crowd want shootings to be considered not being a REAL story?
Â
Are you serious or is this sarcasm?
@sunnysandiego I suggest you reread what I posted.  I'm not gun loving, not inthe least.  What I was objecting to here was the using of the sensitivity of everyone when ever there is a gun incident involving children.  This gun incident happened nowhere near these children.  The first headline I read made it seem as if shots were fired at the bus full of children.  In an effort to get a headline, or be the first to report yet another gun incident involving children.  We probably would have never heard about this incident if the car wouldn't have struck the school bus that was at least a half a mile away from the gunshots.  No sarcasm at all.  I just did not appreciate KOMO sensationalizing this incident.
@sunnysandiego No the general public would like to have truth in reporting. When seconds count to be the first to report, facts tend to not matter.
Â
But I always enjoy the way you translate other people's posts...(and that last line was sarcasm in case you may have missed it!)
@aintno1special  @sunnysandiego Welcome to the media industry. The rush-to-report and the growing use of social media by news organizations is a topic of concern and debate nationwide. It does not serve the public very well in this age where the prevailing thought (at least from Apple to Facebook) is that everyone wants absolutely instant everything. Are we better off for it?Â
Hey guys, now that you've changed the headline a few times, maybe this is a great time to consider not running stories until you have the basic facts. Just saying.Â
Â
Â
@lakeview Gotta be first with the story, any story. It's all about ratings.
Hmmm...this story has a lot of holes, which I'm sure will be cleared up later. Â However, it sounds like the silver car was not innocent in the shooting incident and can now add hit and run to the list of whatever the driver already racked up. Â And how much do you want to bet the car was stolen?
@stamperzann yep, that car is guilty alright.  Throw it in jail - never mind the perp inside.....
we need to get armed guards on all school buses
Maybe is sunny commiefornia..
Â
@sunnysandiego Or maybe we can post a witty and highly unique post that may, I don't know, pertain to the subject at hand.
Â
The bus was hit by a car that had been shot at earlier, so you think anyone would say shot the drive of the car before it hit the bus? Or was you comment even intended to be remotely insightful?
@aintno1special aha yes the witty why don't we ban cars, swords, poop, shoes, etc....
Â
anything used as a weapon.
Â
Ah so witty
@Nanamamabjm  @sunnysandiego  @aintno1special Yes, but banning toothpicks does not ensure that people will no longer use them.
@komotriedtosilenceme It has to be because he is a "resource officer" and not an "armed guard"! No way an "armed Guard" would have stopped this.
@sunnysandiego Yes who is silly enough to think having someone armed in a school would offer any benefit?
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/01/31/us-usa-shooting-atlanta-idUSBRE90U18Y20130131
Â
"THE" answer? Maybe not, but how can you argue with results?
@sunnysandiego "Mine are merely renditions of the not so witty argument by the nra president to arm guards in every school." Oh and here I thought you were mocking President Obama's idea of having a "resource officer" in every school. Wow I hate when I misinterpret someone's meaning.
@aintno1special ah much wittier than mine.  As these are thoughts originated by comparing an object which COULD be used as a weapon....
Â
Mine are merely renditions of the not so witty argument by the nra president to arm guards in every school. Â Schools we cannot even afford to "arm" with teacher's to teach students in a manner which is conducive to learning.
@sunnysandiego  @aintno1special Toothpicks.  You forgot toothpicks.  Toothpicks can be used as weapons.
@sunnysandiego AMEN.  God bless all us gun loving nutsos!!
 @sunnysandiego THIS is sarcasm.  :)
