Near GOLD BAR, Wash. - Four people are injured, and a Federal Way man is dead following a head on collision on Highway 2 at milepost 37, Saturday evening.

Emergency crews arrived on scene to find 22-year-old Denis Sokolik, driver of a black Mercedes dead, and a 22-year-old pregnant passenger seriously injured. Three occupants in a Ford pickup truck were also injured, having been struck by the Mercedes and sent careening over a guardrail and into a ditch.

Police believe the driver of the Mercedes was heading westbound, and hit the eastbound traveling truck while making an illegal pass on a double yellow line in a curve.

Witnesses say the driver of the Mercedes was driving erratically prior to the crash, but it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role at this time.

The passengers of the truck were transported to Harborview Medical Center, and two have been released while one is still in serious condition.

The 22-year-old passenger was transported to Colby Hospital in serious condition. Her current status is unknown.

Part of Highway 2, east of Index, was shut down for hours. Investigators have ruled the cause of the crash to be "unsafe passing."
