Hiker with broken leg rescued in Snohomish County

INDEX, Wash. (AP) - A Snohomish County sheriff's spokesman says a male hiker in his 50s with a broken leg has been rescued from an area near Lake Blanca south of Index, Wash.

Lt. Jeff Brand said that off-duty nurses who happened to be in the area bandaged the man's "open leg fracture" Friday afternoon. A sheriff's helicopter picked him up and flew him to an Everett hospital.

Brand says the man's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. He was not identified.
