Hikers near North Bend asked: Have you seen this truck?

NORTH BEND, Wash. -- King County Sheriff's deputies are asking people that regularly hike trails in the I-90 corridor area to call them if they remember seeing a red Toyota pickup routinely parked at any trailhead in the last year.

Peter Keller

Peter Keller, a person of interest in the double murder that occurred Sunday morning near North Bend, is known to be an avid hiker, said Sgt. Cindi West, spokesperson for the King County Sheriff's Office. Investigators were told that he usually drove a 1994 faded red Toyota pickup when he went hiking.

"We have the truck, but we want to know if anyone has seen it regularly parked at any trailhead," West said.

Investigators also said that Keller occasionally took his mountain bike with him and recently had been seen hiking with a "very large backpack."

Keller has been unaccounted for since the Sunday morning fire at the house that he shared with his wife and daughter. Tuesday, the King County Medical Examiner identified the victims as 41-year-old Lynnette Keller and 18-year-old Kaylene Keller.

Tips are already coming in, including from a kayaker who spotted a man Monday who looked like Keller.

"The thing that brought my attention to him was that he kinda backed away from the river bank as we went by," said Steve Lowe. "Usually people are indifferent to us."

Detectives are checking out the tip, but say there's just too many trails to send out search teams. A tip about the truck could narrow the options.

"If somebody else is an avid hiker and says you know that red truck is parked there every Saturday at this trail head, that might give us a place to start looking," West said.

Keller's relatives in Issaquah even called police just in case he made his way to their home.

"They had been out of town and they were concerned when they heard it on the news what had happened that he might be in their condo," West said. "And so they called us and asked us to check the residence and we didn't find him."

The Rocha family, on Lynnettee's side, issued a statement thanking detectives and everyone who's offered their prayers and support during this tragedy. They say two beautiful lives were lost and they will be missed immeasurably.

If you remember seeing this truck parked at any trailhead in the last year, please call the King County Sheriff's Office at (206) 296-3311 or 911.
