Homemade explosives accident injures 3 in Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, Wash. (AP) - A man, woman and child suffered burns when a homemade explosive went off unexpectedly Monday afternoon outside a home in Aberdeen.

Police told KBKW a 26-year-old man had poured out some black powder and lit it to cause a flash and smoke. When he attempted it again, it exploded.

The man was treated for burns to a hand and leg.

His 21-year-old girlfriend and 4-year-old niece received more serious burns and were transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where they are reported in satisfactory condition.
