Hot air balloon makes emergency landing in Portland suburb

WILSONVILLE, Ore. – Bob McQuown’s quiet Saturday morning at his condo complex was interrupted when a hot air balloon landed in the middle of his street.
“I took a still shot at first and then I took the video,” said McQuown.
It’s unclear what caused the emergency landing. No one was hurt.
“The basket of that balloon was just brushing against the top of that fir tree,” McQuown said.
Other neighbors soon noticed what was going on in the sky above their homes.
“When I called police, the non-emergency, I said the air balloon stopped in the middle of the street,” said neighbor Dana Howe. “She said ‘what?’ I said the air balloon’s in the middle of the street. She just didn’t want to believe me.”
Police arrived and helped block the street so the balloon could make a safe landing.
Emergency landing?? Â Why is that?Â
Seems like a pretty normal balloon landing to me. Â Maybe it's news since the balloon didn't land at an airport, and the pilot didn't file a flight plan. Â Ha!
Many dogs will bark at the balloons.... then on a full moon night the same dogs will bark at the full moon thinking it's a balloon..... my brother-in-law does the same thing......
Just another example of how the media doesn't understand ballooning and won't take the time to change it from marketing hype to simply another landing.
Odd that this is news. Â Several times I've seen hot air balloons land in unusual places, like people's back yards, school parking lots, etc. Â You don't always get to pick where you land when the wind is steering you.
Glad that there were no injuries and everyone was safe.
