Hours-long police standoff ends peacefully in Kent

KENT, Wash. -- A two-hour police standoff in Kent ended peacefully Friday afternoon when a 24-year-old accused purse snatcher surrendered to officers.

Police were called to the 10700 block of SE 240th Street at 12:15 p.m. after a witness reported seeing a robbery. When officers arrived on scene, they learned a woman had been assaulted and her purse stolen,.

Witnesses told police the robber ran into a nearby apartment complex. Officers learned which apartment the man was in and also discovered he may have had a weapon on him.

Police soon found the man inside an apartment and tried to talk him into coming out. The man refused, and tactical officers and hostage negotiators were called in to help.

After roughly two hours, the officers were able to coax the man out. The 24-year-old was promptly arrested and booked into King County Jail.
