House fire reveals large pot grow-op in S. Seattle

Police discovered an extensive marijuana grow operation – from 50 to 200 plants – after firefighters knocked down a house fire just off of Seward Park Avenue South Wednesday morning.
Flames were shooting 10 feet above the roof of the house when firefighters arrived around 7:30 a.m. But, they got the fire under control fast.
When firefighters did a safety search of the home, no one was there.
Kyle Moore with the Seattle Fire Department suggests the house may have been wired to conceal the illegal activity.

I have yet to see anybody smoking marijuana since the new law was passed. This whole hoopla reminds of the Y2K scares that never materialized.
Did firefighter get chance to inhale some?
Just locked them up !!!
Idiots that don't understand electrical wiring and stealing electricity put another neighborhood at risk and raise the price of electricity for everyone. The article didn't say if it was a rented house but if it was the property owner is now facing a huge financial loss as the result of his renter's stupidity.

Dude I saw them cruising around in a green panel van wit personal plates
that said YESCA on them.....; )Â
was cheech and chong seen in the neighbor hood?
OOPS! That's not covered by the new laws or your insurance.
I see all the dopers have the day off and are practicing spewing their "let's alter our minds more" garbage.
@swatguy1 He is a PIG and does have small dick syndrome.

@swatguy1 sounds like someone needs a toke to mellow out.
@swatguy1  Go finish your six pack of beer and leave us pot heads alone. We come in peace.
What a waste of a perfectly good plant.Â
This is exactly why marijuana needed to be legalized. Hopefully in a year or so, when they finally have the system in place, the days of dangerous electrical wiring for basement grow-ops will go away.
Â
That being said, you should be allowed to grow your own plants for personal use if you want.
@virtual anomaly  MMMMM. 50 to 200 plants is not personal use dude.
@DDG - depends on the person :D
@DDG That was my point, THESE types of grow ops will hopefully become obsolete. Personal use grows should be legal.
It took over 100 firefighters without gas masks to control the smoke from the fire.
@al_wa In related news, all of the nearby sports stores sold completely out of hang gliders...Â
@al_wa  Witnesses reported that several firefighters were seen adding additional plants to the fire.
Â
And after the fire was out, they all went to a local Taco Bell and ate themselves into a food coma
 @scared_citizen hahaha- laughed out loud!!
Oh NO did someone get killed, why don't you investigate something like that instead of wasting tax payers money on something so trivial.
@nunof uors A fire that threatens other homes and lives is not trivial.
@nunof uors  I didn't see anything about the police investigating, just they found it after the fire? And last I heard KOMO doesn't use our Tax dollars. Smoke another one dude.
@nunof uors I want my taxes to pay for investigations of criminals who steal electricity which I pay big $$ for every month, and who cause a risk to my children and my neighbors and my home which I worked hard to earn and keep because they are operating an illegal marijuana grow house. If you think that's trivial then you really need a reality check.
@todaysnews @nunof uors But they don's steal it to save $500/mo as it's a drop in the bucket. It just so happens that such high usage will raise red flags of a growing op, which in turn comes back to stupid marijuana laws. So yes. Trivial.
@Romey_Rome So if your next door neighbor has an illegal grow op that catches fire and it extends to your house and causes damage to you or your life, you still will tell me that it's trivial? I call BS.Â
@Romey_Rome  @todaysnews  @nunof I completely agree it should be legalized, and that the laws were stupid and a complete waste of money (and jail space) to enforce.
But regardless of why the morons had the unsafe electricity hookup, if it caused a huge fire and put neighbors and emergency responders at risk it's not trivial.Â
Â
"Following the discovery and extensive investigation, police then headed to Taco Bell . . ."
It sounds like the work of a bunch of idiots.Â
Everybody breathe DEEPLY!
