'I Hate Teen Moms' Facebook page stirs controversy
SEATTLE -- A Facebook page called "I Hate Teen Moms" is stirring controversy while getting tens of thousands of "likes." Some argue the page is out of line and akin to bullying, while others defend it as free speech.
The page's administrator says it's nothing more than dark humor and satire, but the comments on the page range from random rants to hurtful name calling.
Local teens seem to be divided about the page.
"They feel like they can say whatever they want because there will be no consequences," said 17-year-old Brandon Vincent.
The page administrator said teen moms think they're morally superior for keeping their babies, and he said the page is against children having children.
But some teens say they don't see how page would work to prevent teen pregnancy.
"They already have the kid and I don't think slandering other teenage moms is going to help," said 17-year-old Mark Robinson.
At least one teen mom in the area was so disgusted with the comments on the page that she reported it to Facebook. She didn't want to take part in this story, but said she can't believe Facebook allows the page to continue.
Facebook officials did respond to the teen's complaint, writing, "We understand that you may not like the reported content. To balance the needs and interests of a global population, Facebook protects expression that meets our Community Standards."
"It just seems really unnecessary and hurtful and a bad use of social networking," said adult Shelly Shay.
Facebook says if gives people around the world the power to publish their own stories and that these opinions mirror the diversity of people using the site.
The Washington Attorney General's Office contacted Facebook for the teen who complained about the page, even the the AG doesn't have any legal authority to force a resolution.

Fb didn't delete it by the way. An admin of the page did
The page was deleted by facebook, only to be allowed to resurface hours later.
I am also trying to get a page called "I hate cancer" banned and "I hate kittens banned". Â People have too much freedom on the internet and this must be stopped.
@J M Bahaha youre actually upset because someone doesn't like kittens? So just because you love kittens, that means that no one can dislike them?
This page is a hate group. Attacking children is a hate crime. This page MUST BE SHUT DOWN before anymore children are victimized. Â
@Debbie L Parents who are too young to take care of their children properly are committing hate crimes against their children.  If you can't take care of your child 100 percent then you are not being fair to the child.  Let's not glorify teen pregnancy.
@Debbie L The page doesn't go and directly attack anyone on their profiles. Instead, the people come to the page and attack it.
All pregnant teens should be forced to have an abortion.
It may seem mean, but people are allowed to express hate. I really hope politicians don't cave to media stories like this and decide to start banning/censoring the internet like they do in China.
Â
As for me, I LOVE teen moms ;)
rofl. As one of the people defending the "freedom of speech" of the anti-teen mums, this is jokes.
Good thing it doesn't say "I HATE ALL TEEN MOMS" or did I missed the ALL part? You know if people assume based on the title of things then I have this book called "How to Kill a Mocking Bird" now based on the title itself what do you think the book is about? Now we didn't come and grab these teen moms to come to our page, they come in their own free will. If you post of a public page then expect to get comments that you may not like to see. I don't come to a page that I know I don't like just to complain...I simply skip it and move along. Now from what I've see the bullies that I've seen isn't from the page Admin itself nor the people that like this page its from the teen moms themselves...threaten peoples lives, calling people names, and basically making what the admin of this page true. If you want to be taken seriously, you better have a cool head over your shoulders. We do have intelligent discussions if the teens come here  don't start off with their sentence with "IMMA GONNA KILL YA IF YOU DON'T TAKE THIS PAGE DOWN"Â
@petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms says -Â "LOL Oh REALLY!? First of all: I'm not a teen mom, so check yourself, sir. Second of all: This is clear and blatant bullying. Your post just proved that: pointing out and calling out a specific individual. Shame on you all! Karma will have its way with you all. I'm going to enjoy it."
Â
Â
Somehow my comment got lost. Great, me a chance to flesh it out more and repost.
Â
It's funny how the angriest, most illogical and borderline threatening comments posted on this thread have come courtesy of "petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms." Given the illogical, selfish, over entitlement mentality of the teen mom crowd it looks like they have found their perfect spokesman!
Â
Its also doubly funny how you deem that anyone who disagrees with you is "bullying". Lets go for tripley funny for the fact that you whine about "calling out a specific individual." Which by the way is EXACTLY what youve done on virtually each and every comment! The difference is i can stand behind my position whereas yours is so weak you spend your weekend throwing stones and then crying to KOMO. Pathetic.
Â
Go ahead and send that screenshot.
@thatsjarrod  @petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms but that's the thing, it's not bullying. Nobody on the page is going FROM the page to other peoples pages to start a fight. It's not bullying if your victim comes to you asking for it, surely?
@Mark An Ti Glendenning  @thatsjarrod  @petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms Actually they do. You want the screenshots and proof? Because it's available. :)
@TheOne @Mark An Ti Glendenning @thatsjarrod @petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms Well don't you worry TheOne because Komo are now receiving some screen shots of the disgraceful parents that turn up with death threats and such.
@thatsjarrod  @petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms Absolutely pathetic sir. Bully is as bully does. You can't keep your cruddy vulgarity on your own page you have to travel around with it in a suitcase. The only ones crying are you and your crew of bullies. If this weren't a threat you all wouldn't be here trying to fail-hard make a point. KOMO and the entire world see you all as you are now. Pretty funny when authorities knock-knock on your door for bullying under-aged children, which by the way is a federal crime if you didn't know. OOPS! Go cry a river now, buddy. LOL!!!!
@TheOne @thatsjarrod @petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms You sir, are a retard. I think you'll find the ones crying about it are the ones pathetic enough to get upset over a fb page. Absolutely idiotic. People who support that page have a right to prove that it's the ones that come to the page that need locking up. Seriously, some of the teen mums are crazy and should be focusing on their children, not other peoples opinions.
 @TheOne  @thatsjarrod  @petitiontoremoveihateteenmomsÂ
jesus christ. i don't wanna live on this planet anymore.
@TheOne  @thatsjarrod  @petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms Where in the sam heck did all these new nutbars come from? Well i'd like to personally welcome you all to the site. Please feel free to both enlighten and entertain us with more of your scary knowledge of the law!
@thatsjarrod  @petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms Scary knowledge? It's federal law and can be viewed on the www.fbi.gov website if you really want to see it all :)
This was there original about me when the page started before getting to many complaints and changing it.This page demoralizes Teen Mothers purely by the name of the page "I Hate Teen Moms" There original ABOUT ME had this to state:Â Teen moms think they're morally superior for keeping their crotch droppings, even though all their kids are under the age of 5 and haven't hit 18, but really they're irresponsible and a burden on society. They also don't know how to spell, which leads me to believe their little parasites will grow up to be equally dumb. They also think that age is just a number has nothing to do with parenting, which leads me to believe they'd be fine with 5, 8, 10 and 12 year olds having sex and babies - Then again teen moms don't believe in precocious puberty, because they were too busy playing house when they should have been studying Science, English and Math. Nice!
Most teen moms.* The majority, especially after what I have seen on this page are perfect examples of the above.
6/27 edit. There are a few teen moms that know they should pride themselves on being moms and not "teen moms". That know this page is satire and dark humor.
Making threats of murder or bodily harm doesn't make you a better person and neither does stupid assumptions such as "You were the products of teen parents" and "You're jealous of teen moms" - Fat chance on option B. We are not violating ToS. We are not doing anything against the law and if you think we are then you are even dumber than you look, prove everything we say correct about teen moms, and you look like an idiot for trying to campaign against us.
Those teen moms who also insist on bringing religion into the mix, you're going to lose every time.
Â
@Tim King I'm 5'8" and losing my hair, so I buzz my head and I'm self conscious about it.
Someone might create a page called "I hate short guys with thinning hairlines". But if I dont compell myself to visit it, I wont be offended. Suck it up, and save it for someone close to you to say something offensive instead.
This is so dumb. If you dont visit the page, you wont be offended. Its a generalized site; its intended audience is a broadcast audience, not a personal target. They dont know you, so get over it and get back to visiting everyone else's pages, your obigatory "likes" and birthday wishes (because everyone else wished your friend happy birthday).
Â
You people who get offended by this are so petty; you let Facebook define your existance. I was born in 1976, I remember talking on the phone, getting girls' numbers at the bar when I turned 21 or at parties, I remember finding out about parties or events from friends when I hung out with them, not some invite on Facebook.
Â
I use Facebook too, I have been sucked into it like everyone else i know. But I realize now how superficial my friends have become because of it. Texting replaced voice mail and phone calls, and now Facebook is replacing that. I wish Facebook would go the route of Myspace and just die off. At least now Myspace is about music and entertainment.
I dont know what is worse in this world; global warming and pollution, terrorism and genocide, or Facebook's impact on our society.
I'm 36 now, I just hope this doesnt last forever.
Just another example of someone expressing their own sense of inadequacy and angst by picking a handy target and expressing their "hatred" for it. Not much different than the KKK, the Tea Party, the Birthers and those who insist the President is a "Muslim", etc.: ignorant, lazy people trying to look big.
@JLS1950 yeah huh? I hate racists and the KKK and dont believe in what they stand for. I dont get offended by them though because I dont go to KKK rallies. I dont care what they say in their stupid meetings they have; I dont care if they burn crosses in their outdoor gatherings. I dont care what they do or say as long as it is not illegal and they dont personally approach me and express their views. Pretty simple; dont visit the page, you wont be offended.
It's a page. Â If you don't like it then why do you not only visit but have others visit also? Â How can the page bully anyone that chose to visit and chose to post? Â If I came to a page you did and started insulting you would that make you a bully?Â
Â
This isn't rocket science or even hard. Â If you don't like a page don't visit the page. Â Most times the title will give you enough of a clue. Â Â
Last post then I am off of here. :)Â
One: That page isn't just about people being against teen moms; it actually has a LOT of positive reinforcement! Two: SOME of us on that page are there because, yes we are against it, but we also want to help teens see the negativity that comes with being a teen parent!Three: There are discussions on there relating to birth control, adoption, abortion, preventing sex, STD prevention and how to get out of a sexual situation..If that is negative reinforcement then please tell me what positive reinforcement is!Four: Everyone is judging the fans of the page as a whole instead of taking your time to ask every single person on there why they are there and why they like that page...there are A LOT of teens and a LOT of PREGNANT & Teen parents on there that I have actually been THANKED by for having full blown conversations with them on things to help them through it. Five: If you have a problem with someones opinion; turn the other way. There are pages out there that  say "I hate faggots", "I hate ugly people"....etc...and I don't see anyone making a huge deal out of that right now.
That's all :)
@Morghan KyLey You know the one you guys have been relentlessly attacking whose promoted the petition page, I think you guys owe an apology. I read that page and the "I Hate Teen Moms" page. The petition page is far more respectful to you guys than you are of them. I quote them from today:
Â
"LADIES AND GENTLEMAN: I have just read some of the most DISTURBING contact with the "I Hate Teen Moms" I have EVER read! Very despicable and makes me feel ill! NEVER EVER revert to racism, EVER! I don't agree with MUCH of what they say to and about you all but SERIOUSLY! To call out people based on color is absolutely, without another word, DISGUSTING! STAY OFF that page PLEASE if you cannot control yourself better than that! You reflect us ALL with that VILE BEHAVIOR!!! ~Admin JJ~"
Â
So it seems you guys are doing just as much judging if not more. I know because I've used IHTM's before that there are a handful of those who do promote the things you mentioned. But the vast majority of users are stupid trolls who do nothing but try and hurt people for fun. You can't defend that. You can't defend the stalking that has happened. You can't defend the harassment. I posted there back in July this exact statement:
Â
"Teens shouldn't have kids but I don't think you guys have a right to be so cruel."
Â
I still have the hate mail and death threats from IHTM users in my inbox. I think it goes both ways.
Just saying...
It's very interesting reading all the posts on this page. After visiting the Facebook page, I don't think the creator's intention was to bully, so much as create "nothing more than dark humor and satire." The problem is that because it's a social media website, the page becomes whatever it's visitors guide it to be...and not everyone that sees that page is going to be interested in satire and 'dark' humor. There may have been no ill-will originally, but I personally think that creating the page was just a colossally stupid move. As for what to do with teenage moms... We should always be compassionate, charitable people but the truth is that coddling these teen moms and saying "there there, you made a mistake but everything will be ok," is just enabling. Sometimes doing what's best for someone in the interest of love can often be the most difficult thing to do because you know that person has to hurt for a while before they can learn from their mistake.
In a completely unrelated note... This dang website always posts my comments in a single block and will not space out my paragraphs! Sorry, I know that makes it tough to read.
so what mtv does with their teen mom or 16 and pregnant is what? it glorifies teen pregnancy and teens see that and say hey! if its easy to have kids and get paid for it then im gonna get pregnant! you honestly thing the teen moms on that show saying its hard while smiling and get new furniture or new houses is gonna defer teens away from getting pregnant?

@Rogue  @petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms  @Sarah Doe Wait you're going to attack this person for still being here when I see you and your pimps all over this page far more than petition. Maybe MYOB and live your life. Quit judging others and act like the adult you're supposed to be. Just a thought.
@petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms  @Sarah Doe Finding a job is none existent
@petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms  @Sarah Doe Haha; actually, a lot of the conversations on the page, do. Don't speak for the page when you know near to nothing of it.
@petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms  @Sarah Doe Not making anything up. lol. I could go through and find everything to hold my points up but since you visit it so frequently I am sure you have seen everything.right? :) I have no reason to make anything up...my opinions will stand regardless of a freaking fb page.. LMFAO.
LMFAO; SO wait...due to us feeling and thinking as we do and having an opinion, people think they're all high and freaking mighty that their opinions should conquer ours?! I am a FAN of that page and I have said A LOT on there. If you don't like wtf is being posted and you're FOR teen mothers, then don't go to the god dang page. I mean, how hard is it?!Â
@Morghan KyLey And you just proved their point, congrats :) I'm glad you all came here to cry about the negative attention you're getting. It's WELL DESERVED! :D
@petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms..... So, just how many times were YOU a teen mom? Or maybe you're just a pervert who likes banging little girls and wants to keep teen pregnancy alive. Move to Noble, Oklahoma... teen pregnancy capital of the U.S. where those litttle sluts are PROUD of it!
@Ezekiel Bandini Disgruntled much? Are you an adult talking about kids like that? I also remember seeing a post before it was deleted that this person was actually never a teen mom. Actually it's on the petition this person promoted as well. So I think you need some growing up to do sir. I hope you don't have kids!
@petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms Actually, I'm not crying about any negative attention. I find it hysterical. If the page gets shut down there will be another one right around the corner. Are you really that naive? It's the internet. There are over 1 million people on there...good luck shutting every single ones opinion off.Â
@petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms Why are you so afraid of a website page?Â
Â
Â
@petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms lmfao; this is just all too funny to me really. :) If you don't like an opinion..turn the other way. This page isn't going to get shut down...and IF it does, which I HIGHLY doubt, there will be plenty more out there. There is more than just one page that is against teen pregnancy. Have fun listing them all. :) Have a wonderful day!!Â
 @petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms Huh?Â
@petitiontoremoveihateteenmoms It would be a crime if "I hate Teen Moms" was recreated....it's not hard to switch up the name. If they take down this page then they have to take down ALL pages that are LIKED and have a controversy on their pages as well. They can't do out with one and keep the others. If they do they then facebook is going to have their hands FULL with everyone's opinions. It's the internet and this page isn't just on facebook. It's everywhere...especially in reality.Â
Teen mom show on MTV should be canceled, its just making teens think that having a kid at a young age is easy. Newsflash its NOT, they get paid to put their life out in public that is it, they don't work, live with their parents (until they have enough money from the show to be able to get their own place).Â
@Shirley Dalila Moreno "...MTV should be canceled..."
Â
I agree. It makes young people more stupid.Â
@caphillkid  @Shirley Dalila Moreno I miss when MTV was just music...life would be grand!Â
@Shirley Dalila Moreno ha; the shady part is each of them make $500,000 a year...Amber and Gary together make a little over a million a year and they just renewed their contract with Teen Mom. I live less than 20 minutes away from Ambers old house and Gary is always running around with a few guys I know...it's so funny how much insight someone can get to find out how pathetic that show reallllllly is. It's okay for there to be a TV show about teen moms but it's not okay for a page on facebook to be against them.Â
I agree. The world if full of kids raising kids that have no life experience in any way, Don't have a job, have no place of their own to call "home", have 0 dollars in preparation of having a child, Live off of the State, and most of them don't have a vehicle to get around in. GET A JOB, GET A CAR, SAVE SOME MONEY, LIVE LIFE A LITTLE, THEN DECIDE IF YOUR MATURE ENOUGH AND FINANCIALLY READY TO EMBARK ON PARENTHOOD. To many kids having kids way to early in life, Period !
Teen moms can be unstable, or not have a job and depend on tax payers money but then again so can adult parents. Everyone is different . its just dumb for people to steriotype.Â
