Inmate mistakenly released from Ore. jail

PORTLAND, Ore. - The search is on for an inmate who was accidentally released from a Multnomah County jail earlier this week.
Stephen Jamaal Reed, 22, is an Oregon Department of Corrections inmate at the Oregon State Penitentiary. He was being held at a Multnomah County jail because he was due to appear in court on pending charges.
Authorities were alerted to the mistake by an anonymous caller.
Reed had been incarcerated since May 2 for cocaine possession and heroin delivery.
Reed is described as 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Oregon State Police at 800-452-7888.
A quick search of the KATU archives found that this wasn't the first time that a person has been mistakenly released from custody in Multnomah County. Back in 2006, a sex offender was mistakenly released. He was later recaptured.
Released him to whom? On what authority? Who did this?
It sounds like a corrections worker came to work tired and was assigned a task they only half understood. Poor supervision. It is hard to blame someone for not knowing everything about a complicated job but the supervisor has to be aware of his subordinates abilities.
Guess it's not just the DOC here that's messed up. For their sake, he damn well better not decide to take out people or cops or anything of the sort!
ohmygawd not again!
The man was last seen wearing an orange vest with the acronym O.O.P.S. emblazoned on both sides. O.O.P.S. stands for the Oregon Open Prison System.Â

@GoDawgs No kidding. Guess they're afraid of it being a racist issue if they do.
So that's what a heroin dealer looks like? Pretty much as I pictured them.
That's nothing. Lane County has been releasing people awaiting trial for murder, and other violent offenses.Â
he's a coke and smack dealer, they are know for their intelligence, he will be picked up soon, trying to make a few bucks in an alley by an undercover cop... you watch.
I am sure he was stoked! I wonder what they do in situation such as this. Â Of course he's going to play dumb but you know he knew he wasn't supposed to get out. Â When they capture him because it was their fault, what do they do? Â
WTF they have done this before and didn't institute precautionary measures (like checking their paper work) to prevent it from happening again. Incompetence knows no limits.Â
I'm sure he doesn't even realize it was a mistake. Probably on the way to turn himself in right now...
he's coming here.Rapes a misdemeanor in washington state punishable with a few weeks in jail,a small fine and a hug on the way out the door.
He looks like a happy go lucky, sweetheart of a man. You can see the joy in his face and the twinkle in his eye.Â
He did his six weeks. Isn't that about right??
Looks like a pillar of the community...
ha, how do you release the wrong inmate? I went to county jail for the night when I was 18 for having an open container of alcohol as a minor at a house party and before I was released they did a warrant check and ran my info. That was in 1995; things are much more advanced now.
I think there might be some job openings down there soon... Least they didnt release a killer, though hopefully they find him soon still.
@ajohnsoccer21 Technically a drug dealer could be a considered a killer if you think of it that way. Â
