Intruders destroy $2,400 worth of Girl Scout cookies
MONROE, Wash. -- Police here are looking for three burglars who trashed a Girl Scout leader's garage and thousands of dollars worth of cookies.
Dee Brown said she went into her garage Sunday and discovered the intruders and the huge mess.
"I woke up because I heard a really loud crash and I thought it was our cats knocking something off the counter downstairs."
But it wasn't the cat. Brown told police she saw three people headed out the back door.
"They looked to be teenagers the way they were dressed," she said.
The intruders left Brown's garage in disarray, emptying cans of paint, oil and detergent over dozens of cases of Girl Scout cookies.
The mother of two Girl Scouts, Brown is known as the 'cookie mom' of her block.
"They obviously came here to destroy something," she said of the intruders, who also broke some of the family's hand-made Christmas ornaments.
Of the 52 cases of cookies that were in the garage, only one remained undamaged. Brown said the value of the destroyed cookies is about $2,400.
Despite the vandalism, Brown said her daughters would not be deterred from continuing their cookie sales.
"You didn't get my girls down. They're still selling cookies, they're still happy to be selling cookies," she said.
Police say the vandals also got away with a cordless screw driver and a small sledge hammer.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Monroe police.

@axnollouse Some people just want to watch the world burn. http://t.co/Z6xtC5IWa4
Obama's health care workers
Someone needs to interrogate the reigning 2nd place cookie mom scout leader.
Now maybe I am just getting to jaded BUT why wouldn't the theives take a few boxes of the cookies? I don't know a single teenage boy who would turn down free cookies. I was talking to a mother of a girl scout the other day and she told me cookies sales are down this year, I have to wonder if this mom did this herself as a way to draw attention and hopefully donations to her girls?Â
@MomOf2Â I'm a father of one of the girls in this troop. This was not done by the mom to draw attention to herself.Â
@MomOf2
My first reaction was outrage that someone would even suggest that. Then I thought it over. You do have a valid point, although I do hope that is not the case.
@oldster70  I hope its not the case also- but think of this: How many of us would call the news when something like this happens?  What usually happens in a case where someone does something that harm a group of children? People open their wallets and donate to make up for the asshats who did the damage in the first place.
@MomOf2Â @oldster70Â To clarify further, the mom was not actually the one who called the news and in fact wasn't going to at all. Someone else in the community took it upon themselves to do so.
You actually have a really interesting point. I hope the police are looking at that possibility as well.
Seriously? Damn well better find them and pay for every damn one of them. Insane!
The lil' twerps that did this WILL be caught and they will pay for their actions.Â
If only the Cookie Mom had had a gun.... Â (sorry, I had to be the first one to post that, because you know it's coming.) Â
@DTÂ Guns, banning this banning that, Darwin, - its totally hopeless around here...
@DT I was waiting for they "...looks like they need to ban paint." (or vandalism)
or ban girl scout cookies! LOL!!
@The WA Mama Ban garages, if they didn't have a garage this never would have happened.
Well since you brought that up.
Even the vice president said recently that all she would have needed to do was unload a couple of shots with a double-barrel shot gun and the guys would have left.
I hear a box of Samoas calling my name...
Well now you know where some people are storing their boxes of cookies to sell to you: in their garage next to oil, paint, detergent, and who knows what other chemicals.Â
@lakeview Imagine if they shipped these cookies with these types of chemicals!
@lakeview yeah, that's pretty gross. Whenever we did the cookie sales, those cookies were not stored in the garage. So many garages up here have rats and mice. ewww.
What is wrong with people?! Â Don't these little punks have anything better to do? Â How much of a loser do you have to be to destroy cookies for entertainment?
@JusticeSeeker No, they don't have anything better to do.  From what my daughters used to tell me, the kids who do that are "bored." They do it to get some sort of rush because their lives are too easy.  The kids in these communities are rarely expected to contribute to their own family with chores, they are handed everything without having to work for it. I can't tell you the countless times parents of my daughter's friends would complain that the kids never "let" them use the family computer, or car. Or how they'd get in trouble, but the parents would never take their cell phones or cars away from them.  So many of the kids we knew, had parents who would actually pay other people to do yard work, laundry, babysitting, cleaning, because they thought it would be best if all the kids had to "worry about" was school and getting good grades so they could get into college.  Of course the irony is that were turning out college students who do nothing but the required school work, then basically drink and "party" the rest of the time.   Parents do these kids no favors by acting like all kids need to do is "get good grades."  Seriously, I heard this over and over again.  The kids lack meaning in their lives, and feeling like they contribute. Â
I just can't believe how some people have zero integrity and think its ok to pull crap like this. I hope they find who did this and not just give them a slap on the wrist. If they are minors, some court ordered therapy for them and their parents (since they raised these lovely monsters) should be mandated, in addition to any other punishments.Â
The actions of some people disgust me. I go out of my way to buy Girl Scout cookies when my body really doesnt need the extra sugar but I feel it is for a good cause. Hopefully the idiots who did this are caught and the Girl Scouts (or the family) dont have to pay for the lose.
Some peoples kids......
2400 dollars worth of cookies, or a dozen boxes.Â
@KOMO_Sapiens Were they on sale?
Bunch of no-good hooligans!
That's right, way to go mom and girls.. don't let those punks get you down. Never let anyone break you, no matter who they are or what they do. Good job and great attitude towards this unfortunate situation.Â
In light of the Girl scouts recent support of usage of GMO products, maybe it was an anti-GMO statement? OK...maybe it was just a few teenaged punks that are in need of some parenting! If that fails they can do a few hundred hours of community service to make up for this.Â
@aintno1special Forget the community service make them dress up in pink tutu's and get a dunk tank- $1 a ball I bet those girls would have that 2400 back in 2 days! They want to act like little asshats fine nothing we can do to stop them but we can embarass the he!! out of them.Â
@MomOf2 @aintno1special A dunk tank full of paint and oil
