JBLM soldier accused of sexually assaulting woman at party

LACEY, Wash. -- A 25-year-old soldier stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in an apartment early Saturday morning.

Witnesses told investigators the victim and suspect met at a bar on Friday night as part of a group of people partying, said Lt. Greg Elwin with the Thurston County Sheriff's Office.

The group later brought the party back to an apartment near Yelm and at some point during the night, the victim eventually passed out intoxicated in a bedroom, Elwin said.

Deputies were called to the scene at 4:30 a.m. Saturday when witnesses reported the woman had been raped. Elwin said the victim was obviously distraught when they arrived and told the deputies she didn't feel comfortable around men because she had just been raped. Medics took her to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.

The suspect, identified in court papers as Kegan L. Zeger, was arrested at his barracks on JBLM a few hours later and booked into the Thurston County Jail for investigation of second degree rape, Elwin said.

Zeger is expected to make is first court appearance Monday afternoon.
