Shoreline man gets 10 years for sex trafficking
SEATTLE (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a 43-year-old Shoreline, Wash., man has been sentenced in Seattle to 10 years in prison for interstate transportation of a 22-year-old woman for purposes of prostitution.
Joseph McDaniels was sentenced Tuesday. He pleaded guilty last fall.
The indictment alleged that McDaniels compelled the woman to engage in commercial sex acts through force, fraud and coercion, transporting her between Washington state and Oregon.
Court records show McDaniels is a registered sex offender who had served a 15-year sentence for robberies in the mid-1990s when he was released from state prison in early 2011. Only a few months later, McDaniels met and recruited the woman. The U.S. attorney's office says he preyed on her youth and drug addiction and threatened to harm both her and her family.
He was arrested last May after he took the woman to Portland, Ore., for prostitution.

Human trafficking is an epidemic that we all need to be more aware of. Making ourselves more aware can prevent this from happening. I'd HIGHLY recommend our law enforcement community as well as concerned citizens read up on this. An excellent book recently published lays it all out. A great resource written by an expert in the field. "Modern Slavery: Investigating Human Trafficking" by Ryan Cantrell" available online at www.createspace.com/4118858
"Court records show McDaniels is a registered sex offender who had served a 15-year sentence for robberies in the mid-1990s.?" Since when was robbery a sex offense? Oh KOMO fire your editors!
So the next article we see about this guy will say:
"Court records show McDaniels is a registered sex offender who had served a 15-year sentence for robberies in the mid-1990s when he was released from state prison in early 2011. After that he served 10 years in prison for forcing a woman into prostitution. Only a few months after his release..."
10 years for what is essentially kidnapping and then forcefully exposing the person to STDs and violence? Wow. You're potentially better off being a sex trafficker (with prior felony convictions) than a 3 time user of cocaine in this state.
@NBA_Is_Useless Actually this is a pretty good sentence when you factor some things in...It will be served in Federal prison which means he will not be serving time close to home. The Federal system only grants about 5% time off for good behavior as opposed to the state which lops off 33% right from the beginning..then the Feds hold your remaining time over your head after you are released, if you screw up.... In the state system he would have likely faced "months" not years in prison.....
Likely fits the mold perfectly: A well-educated, suit & tie wearing caucasion male businessman, I'm assuming....
@Throbbinhood Wow....besides the fact that you couldn't even spell "caucasian" correctly, that assumption just basically makes an a** out of you. In fact, here's the proof of your blatant idiocy: http://www.seattlepi.com/local/article/Charge-Rapist-turned-to-pimping-after-prison-3535714.php
@dg54321  @Throbbinhood I do believe he was being sarcastic, since politically correct KOMO failed to provide a photo of the perp.
@gotrhythm  @dg54321  @Throbbinhood you know what race a criminal is because KOMO says "white male arrested" or "man arrested"--"man" is KOMO-code
@Throbbinhood That is a lot of assumption.
