KOMO viewers step up to help burglary victims

MARYSVILLE, Wash. -- A Marysville mom says she hasn't felt comfortable or safe in her house since burglars ransacked her home over the weekend, but a visit from the Problem Solvers helped change all that.
It's been a rough few days for Tamsin Gunter and her children. While her 8-year-old son, Sam, was fighting for his life in the intensive care unit, somebody broke into their Marysville home.
"I don't even want to know what's missing," she said.
Her 12-year old son, Austin, found the mess.
"Most of it was clothes, and all the drawers were empty," Austin said.
The thieves stole family heirlooms, a television and the Playstation Austin bought to remind to him of the games he used to play with his dad before he died.
After the theft, Tamsin's best friend Michelle asked the Problem Solvers for help.
"Total heartache for her and for the family and the boys," Michelle said. "They've been through so much in the last two years."
In an effort to make up for the crime, the Problem Solvers gave the family a new television and a check from KOMO viewers.
A viewer from Ferndale pitched in to help, as did a viewer from Bellevue. And a complete stranger replaced Austin's Playstation.
While she as faced many bad situations lately, Tamsin has seen the good that was generated by the community.
"To be a part of the recipient of some of that good it's overwhelming," she said.
Home might not feel as safe as before, but it's no longer missing some of the fun.
The family said they've learned lessons about the goodness of people, and they've also learned to never leave their home completely empty while Sam is in the hospital.

So today as you know we were blessed with love from complete strangers. It is wonderful that my son will get back all he lost, at least as far as material things go. I will be able to get back a few of the things that were taken from me. Some of it can never be replaced and most of it will take many years to replace but through the kindness of complete strangers, we are able to begin to put this behind us.
No I dont currently have an alarm system since I do not own the house but I do intend to still get security features for the house for my childrens and my safety
